The number one thing we have been missing with the receiving corps in the last few years was toughness, durability and YAC in the middle of the field. (Basically since Brandon Marshall trade)
Landry basically = Toughness, Durability and YAC + great hands and a willingness to go up and get the ball in the middle of the field. He also had quite a nose for the end zone and hopefully this will continue in the NFL.

"10 players I love in this draft... this is one of them... He is the toughest WR in the draft." - Mike Mayock on Jarvis Landry.

“He is pound for pound the toughest, most physical skill player in this draft" "He catches everything." . ESPN's Todd McShay rated Landry 48th overall

“Huge hands. He’s the hardest worker on that football team. He’ll be a slot receiver."ESPN’s Mel Kiper on Jarvis Landry

Our WR corps could shake out like this by the end of training camp if Landry can hit the ground running:

WR1 Wallace - Speed / should help open up the field for other Receivers / Hopefully finally develops some deep chemistry with Tannehill (hopefully if the line play improves the deep ball will improve a bit)
WR2 Hartline - Security Blanket / Comeback route specialist / Decent #2 outside guy / could be a 1000 yard guy every year with enough touches
WR3 Slot Landry - Toughness / Great hands / Inside and Endzone threat / Safety Net/ Hopefully durable
WR 4/5 Mathews- Could be good outside guy or all-around guy if he gets more of a chance. I feel like he never gets enough touches to show how good he can be.
WR 4/5 Gibson - I liked Gibson when he was healthy and he had a pretty good connection with Tannehill. I think He could play a role as a possession type receiver if Landry can supplant him in the slot.

Camp Fodder: Binns, Spadola, Williams, Rios and any other late round pick ups fight it out in camp for a possible 5th or 6th spot.

So I am hoping that Landry supplants Gibson by the end of training camp as our No 3 / Slot Guy. I actually liked Gibson last year but I am not sold on his durability and he seemed somewhat hot and cold when he played last year. I don't really expect Landry to supplant Hartline at #2 because Hartline seems like more of a natural outside guy. Also Tannehill and Hartline love the outside comeback route so much and have built a pretty good feel for each other.

I really like this pick. I was not a huge fan of the reach in round one but If the end result is more time for Tannehill I am ok with being completely and 101 percent sure that the coaches got their guy.

I agree! I also believe that our receiver group has really improved with Laundry as a slot guy. Our 4 receiver sets are going to look really good this year!

I agree. He looks very good. We now have everything but height in our receiving corps.

Like the pic a lot. Still would love to add a tall rangy speedster to this group, as Landry-Matthews-Gibson are somewhat similar.

Would Martavious Bryant in the 4th if available be too greedy with other needs?

Right now the combo of Hartline/Gibson/Landry/Matthews looks like a poor man's version of Green Bay's group that won the title a few years ago. This isn't a bad thing but they don't have the speed that group had . . . good thing Mike Wallace balances that out a bit. He is the straw that will stir this into a real solid group (and for what he's being paid I'm glad he should be having that effect on this team) and absolutely HAS to stay healthy if we want to be successful this season.

Miami could be banking on Armon Binns to comeback healthy. He would be the taller, redzone threat that you are thinking of.

Not saying I'd ignore the position anymore in this draft but he's definitely an option if healthy.
