Langford led Hampton in both sacks and tackles for losses as a sophomore and junior, when Hampton had success stopping the run. His dominance against the ground game stands out in his performances. In 234 running plays going directly at Langford during his career, the opposition managed only 63 yards, an average of 0.27 yards per attempt. In 47 games with the Pirates, the opposing team has produced just seven first-down runs on plays directed at Langford.

That is CRAZY NUMBERS !!! They average only a quarter yard per rush when they ran to him in over 230 plays ?!?!! WOW !

Here is a video of him at the combine.. Looks real good.

I am LOVING the Merling and Langford picks. Along with Starks, Torbor, Ayodele, Ferguson etc, teams will not be able to run on us like a hot knife through butter anymore !!

Baby steps baby steps. We needed to shore up the basics in football before getting those skill position guys.. We will do that in other drafts in future years, as well as trades, june cut acquisitions and so on. Right now we needed to fix the lines. You can't fix the whole team in one draft.. But I LOVE this draft !

I admire your enthusiasm (or blind loyalty) but the fact remains that Langford played for DI-AA Hampton, who plays in the super-tough Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. This includes the stellar rushing attacks of:

1) Delaware State
2) Norfolk State
3) South Carolina State
4) Morgan State
5) Bethune Cookman
6) Howard University
7) Florida A&M
8) North Carolina A&T

Their three non-conference games were against Princeton, Winston-Salem State, and Southern Illinois.

In other words, he stopped nobody of note. I'm not saying he's bad (although I do think he was a terrible reach). I'm saying you can't evaluate him until he faces real competition.

those stats are amazing even if was PEE WEE FOOTBALL, i think we got us STOUT run defender, and an above avg overall 3-4 DE.

He didn't have a whole lot of competition so obviously his stats are going to inflated.

However, I think he has tremendous upper body strength that will translate well to a 3-4 WT.

Those are sick numbers, who keeps track of this stuff?!?

I will try to rewatch the Senior Bowl tonight and keep an eye on him. He really stood out already the first two times I watched it.

I likr him t this pick.. We are shoring up the defense and offensive lines quickly. Plus via free agency and a trade I think in 2 years we are dominant.

Yeah? Would you take Justin Durant? Because the same thing wa said about him when the Jags took him out of Hampton last year. I think he did pretty well.

then again, you could have said the same thing about Jared Allen a 4th round pick coming out of the Big Sky Conference.

I wasn't a fan of the pick at first, but I am coming around. I had my fingers crossed for Conner, but I guess he just wasn't big enough for Tuna's system.

I'm looking forward to seeing Merling on one side and Langford on the other as starters in a year or two.

When I first heard they took another DE and passed over some very interesting players I'll admit I was disappointed, but after looking into Langford, I am really excited about the pick. He is a rare mix of ideal size and intelligence. These small school players we've picked up are boom or bust and I'm leaning towards Langford lowering the boom on a lot of RBs in his career.

well, some of you can say what you want about Langford,or anybody else coming out of a small school, but this is what i say....how many players have come from small schools and had good to great careers in the NFL? Jared Allen is one as of right now....and oh yeah, there's another one who played college ball at Mississippi Valley State...what was his name? oh yeah...Jerry Rice...greatest WR in NFL history. my point is this...small schools can produce good players,so lets not knock him yet until we see what he can do.
