Had to research this when a friend told me because I didn't believe him -- and it's true!

I know both Minnesota and Arizona are having trouble this year. I would account this mainly to the economy and down times. What about the Dolphins in 2000 and 2002 though? How did they not sell out then, but in worse economic times they have no problem. What is different about now? I guess winning the last 8 of 9 has loaded up the bandwagon!

Fans of the Miami Dolphins will be somewhat in the dark today because the telecast of their team's playoff game against Indianapolis has been blacked out locally after it did not sell out in time.

It is the first National Football League playoff blackout in seven years.

FORT LAUDERDALE _ For the second consecutive year, the Dolphins failed to sell out before the NFL's blackout deadline _ at 4:05 p.m. Thursday _ so the game won't be televised locally. Despite pleas from the team, only 3,000 more tickets were sold on Thursday by the deadline.

I could have sworn I watched that Baltimore loss on Television locally. I know for a fact the Colts game was blacked out tho.

Well it is old news, but it's a relevant question I think. Why were the last 2 blacked out and this year there was a frenzy. Were dolphin fans back then spoiled with making the playoff consistently prior? I mean the economy is in the tank Arizona and Minnesota both had their problems this year, yet we had no problem this time around. Is there a different sort of optimism this time around?

I think by 2002, the Dolphins made the playoffs so many times in the last 15 years and done nothing (Reaching the AFC Championship just once in the early 90's) that people figured why bother, they'll probably just lose anyways. Wait a few years, if playoffs become an annual trip again, we'll face the same problems.
