Ok... so its 4th and a mile from the Bears 40 something line... Philbin decides to run the play clock down to zero.. take a 5 yard penalty and punt the ball.. The Bears receive the punt... zero seconds on the game clock... We go into half up by 14... Sounds like a fair, conservative decision on Philbins part... right?
But instead.. how about we do this...
Run the play clock down to 1 second and call time out.. This will leave 6 seconds on the game clock... Send the offense back in and throw up a hail mary in the endzone...
Small chance it would work... but a big message to the offense and the team that we're serious about scoring points.. The downside.. Tanny gets sacked, fumble and scooped up and ran back for a TD... we go into half up 14-7... But one could argue there is about the risk of a bad snap to the punter...
Next worse thing.. interception and ran back for a TD... I would say the same odds of punting the ball and having it ran back for a TD.. sure its possible, but not likely..
I dont know if I'm just piling on the Can Philbin bandwagon... or if I'm just being extra critical.. but regardless.. I think it would have been a cool thing to do..
