Draft Winds

According to Peter King, San Francisco has little interest in Trojan QB Matt Leinart with their first pick. GM Terry Donohoe told King that the team has many needs and doesn’t see Leinart as the type of franchise QB worthy of the first pick. Donohoe went on to say that he didn’t see many, if any, franchise players in this draft which would make trading down for teams at the top of the draft difficult. Of course all of this could be a giant bluff by the 49er GM but how does he benefit by declaring this a bad draft or Leinart a non-franchise type QB? These comments were made before the Orange Bowl so we suggest that Donohoe break out the tape of that game to watch some of the amazing throws and pocket presence that the Heisman winner possesses in the likely event that Leinart declares for the draft.

Profootballtalk.com, one of our favorite sites for football gossip and inside info, writes that the Bears are looking to trade down from the 4 hole in the first round. GM Jerry Angelo has his eye on the two first rounder that both Dallas and San Diego own. They claim that the Bears are looking to pick up a quality receiver and lineman on either side of the ball by parlaying their high pick into two lower ones. We think they’d be better off sticking at four and drafting Michigan stud Braylon Edwards who looks like a younger Chad Johnson or Andre Johnson.

We think the 2 spot is a perfect place for Miami to be if they want to trade down or select a franchise quarterback. Edwards and Antrel Rolle along with QB Alex Smith or Aaron Rodgers if Leinart is indeed the first pick, are all attractive prospects for a team that wants to trade up. Depending on the number of spots the team has to trade up and the possibility that the trade could be for a quarterback, Miami might be able to recoup a bounty of draft picks which could include a second rounder this year, a future first rounder plus that team’s first round pick this year.

Should we have gotten a QB like they suggest or are you happy with Brown?

All the QBs available sucked imo.. Happy with Ronnie B.

Ronnie was the right pick. Neither Rodgers or Smith were quality 1st round QBs. There was just a lack of other/better options, so they were the two that were hyped up.

All Championship teams REQUIRE a running game ... just ask Dan Marino..... Ronnie was the best choice

I strongly disagree with the statement that Rodgers wasn't a quality 1st round QB.

Time will tell...

Sucked is a strong word don't you think?

Was Rodgers worth the #2 pick? It seems most think he wasn't. But that hardly means he "sucks".

If we knew everything about Ricky coming back and how he would play, should we have taken Braylon Edwards?

Very tempting to say yes ... but still i think Ronnie.... Edwards would have been the next best pick

I think if we had KNOWN for sure RW would come back and that we'd have him for several years, Saban would have very strongly considered Edwards.

If we had know that for sure than yes I think we would have taken Edwards or traded out of the pick. It sure would be nice if we had an extra first this year....

The most productive QB this year was Kyle Orton...that's funny from where he was drafted. That was this year however.

By the way, you have the greatest avatars ever.

Just the Dolphins luck, the one year they had a high draft pick, no QB's were worth taking that high. Now this year, they draft 16th and will probably miss out on the top 3 QB's.

Knowing Saban and Co., he has a habit looking for Diamonds in the Rough...

look at Lorenzo Diamond and our '05 7th Round pick Kevin Vickerson...looked really strong in the beginning but he had that ACL tear :(
