I was watching NFL Live this eveing, well yesterday eveing now. And was watching the ticker at the bottom. With Brady Quinn not doing the combine and his over all stock slipping, Kiper has him at the number nine spot. I don't follow college football through out it's season. I only pay attention when it comes time for the draft. But seeing as how we let Harrington go I now agree with all the others out there saying that it would be a great pick up. Even if he doesn't start this year. If he can sit on the sidelines, and Cam can get the o-line put together like he wants, we could very well have another Philp Rivers on our hands.

Oh and for those wondering about Ted Ginn Jr, Kiper had him going a pick in front of Quinn at number eight. To the Vikings if I remember correctly.

Interesting, every other mock draft has him either going to the Lions or the Vikings. Im starting to warm to the idea of bringing Quinn on board.

I'd love Quinn, but we'd be lucky to have him slip to the #9 spot.

I think its funny all this guys were mocking draft picks even before FA.
doh....

If Cam / Mueller are seriously interested in drafting Qb B. Quinn, we'll likely trade up in order to get him. How far is anyone's guess....

If we choose to stand fast, I would expect us to draft L. Brown to bolster the OL. The other option may be Ohio State WR T. Ginn. No matter what, we're looking to draft a very solid player at #9.....

PHINZ RULE!!!!!

Neither Brown nor Ginn are really "solid" picks - both are somewhat of a gamble. A solid pick would be Alan Branch or Adam Carriker.

I'd love to get Quinn. In fact, he's who I want in this draft. I'd be HIGHLY dissappointed if we went WR in round 1.

Kiper has actually had Quinn falling to us at #9 for over 2 weeks now (on the ESPN ticker anyway). However, given all the FA moves as of late, that looks less and less likely. He probably won't make it past #2 or 3 now, since detroit signed an OT so they don't need Joe Thomas as bad, and he was the guy most "experts" had them taking, and the Browns nabbed Jamal Lewis so they don't need Adrian Peterson now, leaving both to focus on QB. IF he slides past them, there is always the Vikings to worry about, although I'm still not sure (or maybe I'm just hoping) they are ready to give up on their 2nd rounder Jackson after only 1 year. The biggest concern for me is now the Texans. It's been made pretty clear they are giving up on Carr, and they just signed Ahman Green so the Peterson pick may not happen (although they could still grab him since Green is older and doesn't have many eyars left).

This is where the trade up scenerios beciome key, and this is where Wes Welker's move to the Pats actually put us in a great position (although I'll miss the little guy). Going by the draft value chart, our 3 picks in the first 2 rounds are valued as follows:

Round 1 (#9): 1,350
Round 2 (#40): 500
Round 2 (#60): 300

so our 1st rounder plus our natural 2nd rounder (#40) would total 1,850, which is enough (theoretically) to trade up to the Bucs' spot at #4 (1,800 value for #4 overall pick). Our 1st rounder and the Pats 2nd rounder (#60) would be worth 1,650, which would give us the value to trade up to the Redskins' #6 overall pick (1,600 value). Now, BOTH of these would put us ahead of the Vikings at #7 and Houston at #8, so IF Quinn slides past Oakland, Detroit, and Cleveland we would be in a GREAT position (again, purely theoretical since it takes the Bucs or Redskins to agree to the trade).

I'm not worried about Oakland, Russel is highly overrated so Al Davis will pick him (lol), plus Quinn doesn't seem to fit the Raider mold at all. He doesn't have the Raider mentality or image. So Detroit and Cleveland are really the biggest threats. We don't have enough value to trade that far up, unless we get into giving picks from the 2008 draft too, and I'm not sure I'm willing to invest THAT much in Quinn. Trading up to #4 or #6 would be a great value IMO because we have two pick in the 2nd round, so we'd be able to move up to grab him AND still have a 2nd rounder. However, given ALL of the other needs we have too, I wouldn't be willing to give up more than that just to move into Detroit or Cleveland's spots.

A dream scenerio would be the rumors of us getting Green for so cheap (late round pick I believe is the rumor) and drafting Quinn and having him sit for a year or maybe even 2 and learn from Green. I think Green would be a great addition in terms of a veteran mentor, and I would gladly welcome him for that aspect, but if we are interested in him to become our QB for X amount of years (like Culpepper was brought in to be) then I am going to be extremely dissappointed, as he is just another "old" QB who is prety much past his prime. A good temporary fix, maybe, but we have been using "temporary fixes" since Marino left and it hasn't worked and I'm sick of it.

Pretty sure these are old projections. Quinn's dropping stock was overblown IMO. He's still likely to go Top 5.

How are those two a gamble? Ted Ginn took the first play of the NC game to the house. Hopefully our ST unit isn't as dumb as Ohio State's.

I don't really know too much about Brown, so I'm looking forward to an answer from you on these two.

Devin Hester did the same in the Super Bowl.............both their teams lost, and Devin Hester is rumored to be moving to WR since he just can't grasp the CB position. Point is, returning a kick all the way isn't so special that it warrants a high pick, there are guys in round 7 that would be great "return specialists" if that's what you're looking for, if you take a guy in round 1 he better be more than a RS. In Ginn's case, I don't know if drafting a WR at #9 and then making him return our kicks too would be a smart idea, that's a big investment to expose to potential injury like that, especially because we can't afford to lose him as a WR should he go down returning a kick.

Besides, who the hell would THROW to Ginn?

I think we desperately need to solidify the LT position. That's why a player like L. Brown would be my choice. A gamble?? sure, but aren't most rookies considered gambles until they prove themselves at the NFL level??....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

quinn wont be there at 9...minnesota has to e crazy to draft ginn at 7 too.......the guy has troy williamson written all over him

No way Quinn falls to us at 9, if he does, we would be NUTS to pass on him. I see us trading down and taking a Meacham or Kalil, picking up another pick or two. Quantity over quality, remember?
