A San Francisco bar is suing the NFL and DirecTV, alleging the satellite TV provider's exclusive right to broadcast certain football games is an illegal monopoly that results in higher prices.
The lawsuit filed this week in federal court in California challenges DirecTV's deal with the league for "NFL Sunday Ticket," which gives subscribers nationwide live broadcasts of some Sunday games in other cities. Those games are available to the subscribers only through DirecTV.
The lawsuit by the bar Ninth Inning Inc. says the deal stifles competition by preventing other TV providers, such as Dish Network from airing the games.
It seeks class-action status on behalf of other commercial subscribers to "Sunday Ticket," unspecified damages and a court order forbidding the exclusive deal.

*Wasn't sure for the best forum for this thread. Mods, please move to it's proper place.

About time. It's ridiculous that you can stream from nfl.com if you live overseas but are forced into using DirecTV in the states. Hopefully this is settled prior to the 2016 season.

Yeah every year it's project to figure out how im going to watch the games because I'm not switching to direct tv for the sole purpose or having the ticket for the games.

if that's the case I think Madden has an illegal monopoly as there is no other NFL game. the NBA has live and 2k. I don't know about baseball but I think there is 2 different kinds.

but back to the subject, it is about time. now they just need to offer more specific packages. if I could buy just Dolphin games for the year at a discounted price. I'd be way more likely to get a package

Where I live in north GA I have no choice but to buy Sunday Ticket if I want to see my Dolphins. Otherwise I'm stuck with the Falcons or NFC South games.

I just ditched Direct TV this past weekend after 7 years (added insurance to my account and infomercial channels to my "favorites" lineup with out my permission). If this issue with NFL tcket isn't fixed soon, freedom streams here I come.

Good to hear but I think it's going to take more than one bar to make a change. Hopefully many others get on board with the suit. I have boycotted cable tv altogether so I've resorted to subscribing to Gamepass through a VPN. I buy the Dolphins package, the quality is not the best but I get most of the games through my local stations through OTA and sometimes I go to the bar. Really the Gamepass is just a last resort so I am 100% sure I don't miss a game.

NFL App for Xbox One. Problem solved.

No DirecTV needed.

So pay an even steeper price for an Xbox One that won't get used for anything other than Sunday Ticket? No thanks.

The answer is to open it up to all providers or stream it through a public domain.

Xbox One can be used for many things...hence why it is called the "One."

You have to purchase the NFL package for the app. This is how I watch now. Once I dumped DirecTV I was going to a bar every weekend.

Wait. I'm sorry. I have Directv coming out on Monday so a big deal. So, if I sign up for the NFL thingy on my xbox one, I can watch any game I want in entirety live?
