New Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor was expected to implement a fast-paced, creative offense.

But in the preseason, Miami’s offense didn’t look much more innovative than a year ago, averaging 17.2 points per game, which was tied with the New York Jets for 20th of 32 teams.

So when Lazor was asked on Monday if there’s a reason the offensive pace in the preseason wasn’t that fast he simply said “Yes,” and smiled.

So don’t be surprised if the Dolphins offense breaks out the playbook in Sunday’s season opener against New England.

“We have certain decisions that we have to make on the strategy of how we’d like to approach each game,” Lazor said. “And we’ll probably keep those to ourselves.”

The Dolphins’ new-look offense, which is supposed to be quicker and more balanced, will be challenged from the start against a tough New England defense. But Lazor said he expects his players to have it down by now.

“I don’t think of it as adjusting anymore,” he said. “I think we’re here, we’ve been working at it a long time. We’ve put a lot of time and effort in, players and coaches. This is who we are and it’s our turn now to step out and prove it. It’s time to put up some points.”

I hope the offense has been holding a lot of cards that it has not shown.

Nuff said! I'm ready and I'll be in the building to watch us do work, flying out from Los Angeles Wednesday.

All the coaches were very tight lipped when asked any questions about who was starting where or how we might attack or defend against the Pats. This is standard operating procedure for the Philbin led Dolphins (or any smart coach)

I think the only thing I learned from watching all the pressers today (Coyle, Lazor and Philbin) Was that Lazor kinda seemed more inclined to use Moreno as the 1RB. Which I hope to god is true because Moreno roasted the pats last year and looked miles better than Miller in the few snaps we saw.

A note on press conference watchability.

Grading from best to worst

9.0 - Lazor - he gets to the point and I like his pressers. seems smart and in charge of things
5.0 Philbin - (last year 3.0) He seems a little better this year (making more dry jokes etc) He never gives anything away in pressers which while boring to watch is a good trait in a head coach.
4.0 Coyle I don't much like watching his Press conferences, he reminds me too much of Meatball.

Non Dolphin grades

4.0 Belichick - See above, an even drier (Joe Philbin) who gives even less pertinent info to fans and other teams.
10.0 Rex ryan - His loud mouth and rudeness make for great press conferences to watch. He can definitely be detrimental to the Jets as a team with all his proclamations, insults to other teams and players. The jets as a team follow in Rex's footsteps and insert their feet in their mouth too often and are always putting fuel into other locker rooms fires.

Of course they haven't shown there hand yet.

1st drive against Atl was what the offense is gonna be like.

From the article, it looks like McCain will get some pass rush opportunities... Good!

On one hand, I think this is wishful thinking.

On the other hand, the reporters and agents (I'm thinking of David Canter when I say agents) who have been at practice every day have said on more than one occasion that the "Atlanta drive" is what our offense is going to look like, and not what we saw against Dallas. I certainly hope so.

Talk is cheap. We'll know what kind of team we have very early this year. Till they prove otherwise they are the same old Dolphins. I hope this year is different but I'm not holding my breath

I knew that, you don't come out and look that good against atlanta just to like that meh against dallas.

We also heard Wallace say you can't miss too much time or you'll fall out of shape for it fast. And we've heard that there are all kinds of crazy motions and shifts just before the snap which we haven't been seeing.

Anyway, they should have just let the cat out of the bag because Belichick just claimed a human note pad and it'll be out of the bag for all future opponents after week one anyway.

I absolutely think that tempo is critical for our offense. We were totally lacking it against Tampa and Dallas. Need to break the huddle, line up, shift, and go. The entire offensive philosophy is predicated on dictating to the defense and moving quickly so that you can occasionally catch them in missed assignments -- the same thing that resulted in Riley ****ing Cooper of all people routinely getting 'country mile' open last season for Philly.
