Von Miller and Bruce Irvin were two highly rated pass rushers coming out of college that Denver and Seattle have transitioned into OLB roles.

How do Denver and Seattle utilize them and why can't we use Dion Jordan in the same fashion?

Because this coaching staff is ****...

Both are mostly used as Strong side linebackers in their 4-3 defense. Our staff thinks super fast, agile Jordan is a big stout defensive end.. Chickillo being used incorrectly @the U comes to mind.

To answer your question in one word, they use them "EFFECTIVELY." We do not....

It also actually helps that both of them are far better at actually rushing the passer.

Dion Jordan just blows.

This is just not true. You put this kid in an organization like Pitt, Balt, Sea ..hell even NE and he will ball out.

We don't play him properly at all. Now even if he moves he is going to have to adjust to the new role. We handled this kid terribly.

Saying "put him in this situation" is an irrelevant argument because you actually have no idea how it would have turned out there.

Let's just face it that Dion Jordan was another terrible move by Ireland that wasted draft picks.

Dion Jordan's first two years out of college have been far more productive than Cameron Wake's were, there is still an opportunity for him to be utilized and have a very successful career.

solb on early downs edge rush in the sub...both those guys listed have better edge rush tools and arsenal than dion jordan and better get off at the snap...jordan in the sub short of blitz either gap or overload work should be more about coverage

People don't understand that Jordan wasn't the great athlete people claimed coming out of Oregon. He's a good athlete, but he doesn't have tools to win at a high rate in the NFL. He's fast, and he has solid agility, but when you're looking for a guy who is going to get you 10+ sacks (hello #3 overall), you need elite explosion or elite agility. Jordan has neither. I think he'll retire as a role player who was never became anything more than a role player.

Both Miller and Irvin posted 6.70 3-Cones. That's elite.

Jordan posted a 7.02 3-Cone. That's good if you're elite in another area, but Jordan isn't. So you have a guy who can move well and get around the football field, but you don't have a guy with the burst or quickness to WIN against NFL OT's, and that's what you need out of a #3 overall pick. Obviously, he's not going to cover or move through space as well as Miller or Irvin either.

Fact is, we pretty much told the kid from day one that he was a DE and that he needed to gain weight to hold up at the LOS.

I'll be the first to admit, the jump from 13 to 3, and only giving up a 2nd rounder to get the most talented front 7 player in that draft was a moved I approved from Jeff Ireland. However I also thought for sure they were putting him at SLB in the 4-3 or eventually moving to a 3-4 defense.

I thought the notion of him being a DE in the 4-3 was a laughable one . . . yet we are approaching year 3 and that is where they insist on keeping him.

Good Luck Joe Coyle.

If we are not playing 3 4 defense he will be a liability at lb. He just doesn't have the skillset. Not sure why people think he would be a good olb in a 4 3. No matter the spot you play him, he will never be the stud some see him as. In reality he should never have been picked that high.

I disagree. I think Jordan's current abilities are a match for what we ask of our SLB. I posted the following in another thread:

At linebacker, Dion Jordan does more things right than wrong. He can drop well in zone coverage, he can cover well in man coverage, and he has an explosive first step off the edge from a stand up position. Biggest deficiency is taking on running plays when action flows in his direction.

At defensive end, Jordan does more things wrong than right. One trick pony in pass rush...pure speed rusher. Struggles to play with leverage and set the edge in the run game. Struggles in recognition of the play and how he's being blocked.
