With the current log jam at OLB, couldnt we move one of them inside? I think the most logical choice would be Roth considering his size and his ability to stuff the run. With news from OTA's that he has grasped coverage concepts.

If either Crowder or Ayodele goes down? Who fills in?

Roth would be horrid at ILB. That requires more coverage in more space than OLB, which he is absolutely terrible at. The only benefit I see in his play is setting the edge to spill or turn the outside run in. We are sort of screwed at ILB. if there are any issues.

One huge reason why I was totally hoping the Trifecta would pick up Barwin w. their first pick of the second -- then train him at ILB. I just think he'd have been a beast at ILB eventually -- the mind and body to be a perennial all-Pro in Zach's spot. ILB is now our weakest link, imo.

Orion Martin and Folsom are working as ILB's...
Torbor has alot of talent, there's no reason he should be as bad as he is..
hopefully he flourishes with one year in this system under his belt

i think Roth, Ginn & J Allen are all going to be much better in their 2nd year with these coaches & winning atmosphere. They all have fine talent & probably a good understanding of their role now... finally. Even Wilford might work out.

Interested in seeing what Orion Martin can do there. Real leader, hard worker, athletic, did well when asked to peel off and cover RBs down the field at VTech, low percentage of passes completed in his coverage area, and a ridiculous run stuffer. He's physical enough to blitz from the ILB spot, too.

Quit trying to make Roth into more than he is...he's a strong, high-motor guy that does pretty good against the run...anything else is outside of his abilities. Sure he'll get the occasional sack, but I'm more interested in him setting the edge and containing running plays.

Roth is good at what he does, contain the run on the outside. Unfortunately for us, we dont have many guys that can call that a strength, so moving him probably isnt an option.

If we were to move Roth though (for whatever reason), I'd rather see him go back to DE and move Merling to ILB.

I still think we are wasting his (Merling's) talent at DE in the 3-4.

Unfortunately, we dont have much depth in the front 3, so I find it highly unlikely anyone from that squad would be moving to another position. (Other than Soliai being moved to our blocking sled for practice.)

Merling on the Inside at LB,
Won't happen.
If you want to completely waste his pash rush talent put him at ilb in a 3-4
I could see him possibly playing OLB in our 3-4, but still think his skill set is perfect for a 3-4 de, like a Richard Seymore
