The biggest problem with the Miami Dolphins is not talent, but leadership.
Any successful team needs players who will step up to the plate and lead by example. There's just not enough of those players in this current Dolphins team. That's not to suggest Ryan Tannehill isn't a leader. In fact, last season Ryan Tannehill was the leader on offense, if not the whole team. That's remarkable for a second year quarterback. However, Tannehill can't do it all on his own. Dennis Hickey needs to surround Tannehill with players that will fire the whole team up to get this team back on the straight and narrow.
Remember it's leadership, not talent, that is the biggest fault of the Miami Dolphins. Do you agree?

Remember leaders are winners, when the Dolphins build a team of leaders then the winnings will come.

If leaders try to inspire their teammates and everyone on the team knows that they really have insufficient talent, that attempt at inspiration will ring hollow.

The Fins had some leaders and Philbin ran them out of town.

I actually think that we need injections of leadership and talent.
With player leadership it only takes one person if we are able to identify the right guy. It may even be appropriate to identify someone as a clear strong leader and and pay the big bucks to get him. The stench of the drugs and booze and hookers all over the Martin, Incognito mess means that we need someone strong with good character as a very high priority.

So Jeff Ireland got us the talent he just did not get any leaders?

Leaders (coaches)need to lead by letting players on the field lead with passion, fire, and emotion. Intensity is a great thing and I only saw it a couple of times this season. If you take one thing from this past Sunday, consider emotions playing a large part of the Hawks victories this season especially the NFC championship and SB.

While emotions can be destructive to a certain extent if out of hand, football is a violent, passion filled sport and needs to be part of a winning franchise in order to succeed. These players thrive on passion, and while I believe most players have it, usually team leaders funnel this passion to make the team more electric. We need these type of players and coaches need to authorize this type of leadership.

I agree leaders can come in a form of coaches as well.

If I recall, when BP and JI drafted Odrick and Misi in rds 1 and 2, BP stated that he one of the reasons he chose those guys was because they were both voted team captains. He felt they both had leadership qualities and could inspire their teammates.
you don't need to create a "leadership council". That is too contrived. Natural leaders gravitate to those positions.

Yes!!!!!!!

Veteran guys are typically chosen to be leaders or captains, but being a veteran doesn't make you a leader.

That my friend, is a very accurate assessment of a fundamental problem the team had. Great example is Reggie. He busted his ass to give the team a leader who walked the walk, and they tossed him. I think his big personality and leadership efforts upset all the stiffs in the fo. No doubt when they launched all the outspoken players, It turned a bunch of the team into " just play for the paychecks and who cares if we win or lose these game, anyway"

talent isnt the problem? other than grimes, wake and wallace, this roster is full of guys. full of mediocre talent that shows up in our record pretty much every year. keep fooling yourself that this team is talented.

Natural team leaders appear to be Hartline, Odrick, Soliai (quiet), Fields, Denney (quiet), Wake (very quiet) but the most talkative intimidating leader on the field is Jimmy Wilson. Jimmy has a "skill" in pissing off opponents like few others. Interesting that the Finsiders identified Wilson and Clemons as the DB leaders with Jimmy as the general playing from the nickel.
With the likely departure of Incognito, Pouncey is probably the leader of the O-line.
Tannehill is making progress but he still looks like a young kid (I know he's 25). I don't know who the LB leader is.
We really need to recruit/develop a strong leader.
