Cornerback - Sean Smith, Miami Dolphins
My favorite cornerbacks in the draft were Malcolm Jenkins, now of the New Orleans Saints, and Sean Smith, now of the Miami Dolphins. I had Vontae Davis behind those two. It turns out that all three players went to teams that could really use a cornerback, and two of them went to the same team. Jenkins does have a bevy of veterans in front of him that can play, speaking about Jabari Greer, Randall Gay and Tracy Porter. Sean Smith has to fight through competition from Vontae Davis and Eric Green, to be the starter opposite Will Allen. I think Sean will win the most playing time, and has the best chance of all rookie corners to get Pro Bowl attention (either now, or some time down the road) because he is an attention-grabber. At nearly 6′4″ and with his quickness, he draws the eyes of players, coaches and media onlookers. They view him as a physical freak, which he is to an extent. He will also flash statistically, because picking off passes is his specialty. He had 9 in two years at Utah, and if you wonder about his hands, YouTube his back-handed interception in the end zone against BYU in 2008. There is no better way to make the Pro Bowl than by looking physically unique and accumulating gaudy (even to the extent that they are misleading) big play statistics. Is he good enough? Most observers say he already looks ahead of fellow rookie Vontae Davis, despite his having only converted to defense two years ago. Defensive Backs coach Todd Bowles specifically noted how ahead of the game he is mentally. One would think that being able to dominate at Utah immediately after a conversion to a side of the football he has never played before speaks to his mental ability. His time with the Dolphins is thus far validating that thesis. Brandon Marshall showed a similar ability to flip between defense and offense without missing a beat at UCF, and he’s done OK.

Good write up, CK, I'm really hoping that one of the 2 rookies showup great for us..and Sean has the measurables that you hope show up first with the WR's in our division and actually in the league period.. that interception was like outstanding, hoping to see those skills on display soon in a city we all know..

I was impressed with his interview on meeting the rookies when they asked him what he was gonna do for fun and he replied by saying studying film and getting better. I've watched all the other rookie interviews and none have answered that question like him. He seems like he has a lot of potential and I hope he comes through.

What I like about this kid is that he converted to the position only two years ago. He will get better...possibly MUCH better.

Now that is what I like to hear.

:tumbleweed:

I agree. It has been basically the same news every day. If I hear one more thing about Michael Vick or Favre.
In todays afc east defending champion news:
Brett Favre announced he is sticking with his decision to decide later whether to return or not. John Madden had no comment (after being immediately woken up with a full report on the matter), except to say 'You've got your Brett and you've got your Favre, put them together and you've got Brett Favre'.
Meanwhile, Omar threatened various Dolphin units to poop or get off the pot. In a later blog, Omar mentions toilet paper. Several Dolphins fear this situation could get messy.

I am in total agreement:D
As for your other picks, I think Crabtree and Stafford are the ones most likely to be bust.

I agree 100% with Sean Smith but think Vontae Davis could be there as well. I think we landed two very special players in the draft in Davis and Smith

There's a good chance of that. As good as Will Allen is, he isn't known for making pics. My guess for most pics would be Gibril Wilson.

How great would it be if we hit on both rookie corners and they become the next generation of Surtain and Madison, for years to come.

I think it's because Will Allen needs a new camera, I don't think they sell good cameras at bed bath & beyond.

Anytime you have a position solidified so much you don't have to worry about it for years sounds like a plan to me
