I was just thinking. Are there any great left tackles out there that we could pick up? If we landed a good one, then we would have Beast at left tackle, James or Fonoti at left guard, Hadnot at center, Shelton at right guard, and Carey at right tackle. I thought the right side as been somewhat solid with the Shelton move, and we may be a left tackle away from a solid line. Maybe we have that on the team now with some of the younger guys, but I'm not sure. Or could we move Shelton back when Anderson is healthy and is that going to fix it?

Don't know if any are out there or in the draft but I'm sure there are 31 other teams looking for a left tackle. I think the Dolphins should draft trade/do anything to better the line (starting with LT)...the reality is you're only as good as your line. I'd prefer to have a nasty line with average talent around it, than a crappy line with superstars around because you'll get more with the first option.

They should draft Levi Brown and sign Eric Steinbach and then Miami would have:
LT-Brown
LG-Steinbach
C-Hadnot
RG-L.J. Shelton
RT-Carey

Teams don't let great LT's walk unless they are, at the end of a career.

This and the QB position is where a high value draft pick is needed.

Partly true, but there is also a frequently ignored position called a QB which runs your offense and touches the football on every play. :D
A good QB can overcome other shortcomings on your team, but a bad one will be your downfall.
Dilfer won a SB with the Ravens, but he was actually not a bad QB. He was labeled one after his failures in Tampa. The Bucs, until they won a SB were QB purgatory (Steve Young, Vinnie Testaverde, Dilfer).

I agree with drafting Levi Brown. Guy is a stud, and he'd be a huge improvement to what we have now. If Steinbach can be had in FA, then all the better.

I really believe the key to next season will be the 06 draft picks. If Jason Allen can develop into a solid starter, if Derek Hagan can be the third WR, and if "Holy" Joe Toledo can provide quality depth at the oline, then this team might be able to compete for the AFC Championship. If not, we'll continue to suck.

But as has been said before, if we aren't prepared to start this season (as we haven't been prepared to start the previous three) it won't matter.

you mean like robert gallery, mike williams, jordan gross, kwame harris, leonard davis, kenyatta walker, etc.

i don't understand why people think the only way to get a solid LT is with a first round pick. the days of ogden and pace seem to be over with. look at the bills line. they have a converted TE playing damn well at the position.

Here are a couple of good linemen who could be potential free agents.

From that list I like Leonard Davis the best.

Davis is a pending free agent and likely doesn't have a future as a starting left tackle, but that Arizona was willing to part with a key member of their already struggling offensive line is telling. Davis appears unlikely to be back.

Davis is a pending free agent, but the team has shown no interest in signing him long term. However, the odds of a trade taking place between now and next week's trading deadline are very slim. Davis is unlikely to remain at left tackle if he does switch teams.

You make a good point but don't discount players like Jamaal Brown, D'Brick Ferguson, Levi Jones, Tarik Glenn, Chris Samuels, Walter Jones, Tre Thomas, John Tait, Jeff Backus and Bryant McKinnie. We have a better chance at getting an elite left tackle if we draft one in the first round.

I was under the impression the good young tackles like Long and Baker were going back to stay in college. Who can we draft at OT other than Levi Brown? Finding a tackle past Brown seems like slim pickings, at least based on mock drafts I've seen.
