I like the direction the team is going but there are very real concerns at this stage. Firstly, there are a ton of new parts, new players, new coaches that all have to gel together into a cohesive unit. That usually takes a lot of time. From what we've seen in pre-season, we have talented players but mistakes are still plaguing this team. Penalties are going to destroy this season before it even starts. We're just not good enough to overcome flags. It simply HAS to stop, no choice, that's on everybody!

I get that Gase want's to be like his buddies Saban and Bellichek and keep his plays close to the vest. He doesn't want to show his red zone magical plays. That's up to him but Shula wouldn't care if you knew what he was going to run, you couldn't stop it anyway! I can't wait for opening day to see the offense roll! At least I hope it does.

The o-line needs more time to gel together. The run blocking could be way better. I am noticing some mental errors as well. I'm hoping the o-line becomes a strength.

Parker-again? Yep, again. He's hurt for a change so again this is a wait and see what unfolds when the games count. I'm hoping he's able to finally play like a first rounder.

Tannehill-of course that's a concern, can he stay healthy, how will he perform. I'm expecting a big comeback year where he shuts everybody up once and for all. That again is what I'm hoping for.

Brock Osweiler-he could actually be taking snaps for us?? GTFO

Tank-where is the #30 we know and love, c'mon Tank!!!!

Matt Burke-he better be up to the task!! This guy always gets a pass. I never see him asked tough questions. He called a masterpiece against NE but we need consistent, hard hitting defense. He's a veteran LBers coach so I'm expecting some exotic ****! At least I'm hoping for it.

So, the problem for me is that I'm hoping for an awful lot and an awful lot has to come together perfectly for the season to end up in the post season. I had a friend who used to say, " you live in hope, you die in despair." And I'm sure there are plenty more concerns I forgot about like DT's, injuries, Kiko, etc.

Agreed!

The whole holding back on the offensive play calling is BS. Who ****ing cares if teams see your magical plays. Go ahead and try to stop them! The teams are going to see them soon anyways. It’s not like you are going to have magical plays for each game that no one has seen before. Honestly, Gase would be a good college coach. College teams don’t watch as much film on each other as the NFL teams do. NFL teams have seen it all and have a plan for anything thrown at them. Gase needs to ****ing unleash this week if he really can.

there are always concerns when a team hasn't won a super bowl in 45 years. Can't wait for the season to start to see what we really have.

You can fool a team once with a rinckle here and there but you can't fool every team for a whole season. At some point you need to execute the simple plays and best the guy in front of you.

Absolutely, that’s my point. Sure, we could fool the first 2 teams but NFL teams catch on quick. Our players need reps in live games with these magical plays. Big difference between a game vs scout team practice.

The only reason for hope is if they can make this finesse team work to their philosophy. Speed and tempo on offense to play with a lead (seems like a lot to realize) and make teams have to throw the ball and let our DE's work. We definitely have the speed on offense....to go along with some very nice mismatch players.

It should be a challenge for defenses to match up with all our 4.3 & 4.4 guys to ago along with our 4.5 TE and 4.4 RB.

I'm not going to say Ryan Tannehill's going to be fine, because I don't want to jinx it. But outside of one guy submarining his plant leg and a subsequent poor decision not to have it surgically repaired, he has been extremely durable. Not that he hasn't been injured, but that he's been able to play through all of his injuries.

I don't think Parker is a concern, honestly. At this point we know what we have in him and it's a decent wide receiver who can occasionally make a spectacular play, but is often disappointing.

Brock Osweiler will not be on the 53 man roster, so you don't have to worry about that.

I agree that I am concerned about Matt Burke. His bizarre, almost fetish-like fascination with playing the wide 9 and two strong safeties is going to cause big problems for this defense if someone doesn't slap some sense into this hipster doofus.

It’s even odder when you have a 230 lb rookie no less soft at the poa on college tape strong side backer in a scheme that requires gap fill out the nose from the lbs.

It’s the oddest thing I’ve ever seen. Take lumps you will and possibly losses also.

Burke walks plank first it goes bad

Tennessee is licking their chops to get after it

I definitely think that the speed we have on offense is ridiculous. It could be a nightmare for defenses. I also think that Tannehill will be fine, or at least hope so. Our backups are horrible lol.

Not certain about that. Many here are saying (correctly) Miami has to get off to a fast start. Saving plays for the 1st 2-3 games makes some sense. If the mid-season teams know the plays, so what. They're new when Gase needs them. My problem isn't holding back on plays, but apparently holding back on BASIC plays. A run on 3rd and 9? A pass play there is a basic play.
And didn't Miami beat NE in the 2nd game last year by showing Brady some schemes he hadn't seen? EVERY team has trick/gadget plays they don't use until absolutely necessary. Again, I don't mind that, but TRICK plays. Not basic plays.

I want to be proved wrong by Matt Burke. I desperately want to come back here in 3 months and go "Damn, I was wrong about Matt Burke. He just needed better personnel, a little more experience, and an offense that wasn't a tire fire to help him out a little bit."

But I don't think I'm going to be proved wrong by Matt Burke.

Don’t worry about them knowing the plays. Gase has enough formations and subtle changes within them/shifts to give teams problems in a huddle scenario where they can match personnel.

In a speed tempo no huddle that’s where miami becomes another level to deal with.

From ability to dial up exotic blitz packages to forcing basic coverages etc.

Think about if miamis lb level couldn’t shift personnel based on the oppositions looks we’d be in serious trouble. Right now we have to package play it as it is. That’s how miami can create mismatches with tempo.

Not to mention there weren’t many tells in gase play calling last year and that was with a qb he had to scrap half the playbook for cause he couldn’t take standard drops etc unwilling to take contact. Everything will be on the table short of using the qb as a lead ball carrier in the run game in 2018 as long as tanny is the qb

I don’t want to see a lot of zone read with tanny an actual carry option. Limit that stuff

Agree. Not to beat a dead horse, but somewhere around half the O and half the D (in some packages) will be new faces). And 2/3 of the OL. Some seem to overlook that. And of all the new faces, some will be as expected, some better, some will disappoint. That's reality. Some make predictions as if all will excel, some list why all will disappoint, some expect all players with injury hx to miss half the season. . Again, reality is somewhere in the middle. Unfortunately, no one knows which group any individual player will be in in January.

It seems like Gase is asking for a lot of faith from the fan base. He better have the goods, bottom line. If opening day is sloppy and loaded with penalties and turnovers this site will go nuclear!

For me it’s not just Burke. I mean who green lights all these light in the pants poa lbs as draft fits but then requires schematically they fill so much? It doesn’t make sense. Unless they feel like 2019 these guys will be more ready.

Or unless miami has intentions on playing lb completely about package going forward. Which would be another rare and odd fit.

It’s pretty amazing to me that Miami can have all its current schematic ask of the lb level and pass up Tremaine Edmunds who at 19 was granite at the poa with that kind of 2 year from now upside and nickel range and athlete plus that rediculous size.

That was tailor made for miamis scheme I don’t care if it’s long term strong side backer and nickel backer or if he grew into a difference maker at mike and nickel.

Passing that up is odd. Minkah is a hell of a player so in the end this will work out but for 2018 I mean what else could they have been looking for in a lb scheme fit?

And now my ideal center field safety is playing less bang for my buck slot corner so two strong safeties can start. Even after we paid a slot top 5 nickel money who has no business on the boundary and teams will go after.
