I was watching "America's Game" the other night, profiling the 1999 Rams. I found some amusing odd little correlations that I thought I'd share:

1999 was Dick Vermeil's 3rd year with the Rams. The first two years, he worked the team incredibly hard, almost to the point of mutiny. They were a poor team and everyone questioned their talent.

Similarly, the Dolphins under Saban have been worked exceptionally hard the past 2 years. They were a poor team, and experts question our talent.

In year 3, the Rams decided they needed an offensive overhaul. They hired Mike Martz as their OC, who had been the QB coach in Washington, and picked up Trent Green, who had played under Martz.

In year 3, the Dolphins decided they needed an offensive overhaul. They hired Cam Cameron (but as Head Coach), who had been a QB coach in Washington and picked up Trent Green, who had also played under Cameron.

The Rams then drafted a WR (Holt) with a top-10 draft pick. Likewise, the Dolphins drafted a WR (Ginn) with their top-10 draft pick.

The Rams then went out and added an elusive, shifty halfback named Marshall Faulk. The Dolphins drafted an elusive, shifty halfback name Lorenzo Booker. (and before somebody flames me, I'm not saying Booker will be as good as Faulk, just that their styles are similar.)

The Rams had an undrafted 3rd string QB that was basically picked up off the scrap heap named Kurt Warner. He became 2nd string in 1999.

The Dolphins have an undrafted QB named Cleo Lemon that was a 3rd stringer last year and is now the back-up.

Now, if everything basically holds to form, Green will go down with an injury in the first exhibition game. Everyone will think the season is lost, and this NFL relative unknown named Cleo Lemon will lead the team to the Super Bowl.

Yeah, I really don't believe it will happen either. But if it does, we'll know that lightening really does strike twice. :D

If Green gets hurt, Lemon plays. I kind of like Lemon, and the idea of him starting for us seems ok to me. Given the team's seeming commitment to Green now and Beck in the near future, Lemon will either have to accept a long term back up role here or test the waters elsewhere. He's good, he's been patient, and if he ends up with another team in the next couple of years I wish him the best. Personally I'd like to see him get a real shot to see what he can do. Good arm, accurate, mobile, good head on his shoulders- maybe all that he needs is that one big opportunity. The clock is ticking, though.

Dude, if this happened it would be incredible. But the chances are so tiny. Lets see what Green can do for us and hope Beck fills in good when he retires.

Cleo is depth period IMO.
He's always been a project and he hasn't shown any staff enough promise to put faith in him other than backup status.

I know he continues to receive rock star status being the Unknown backup commodity just like Scot Mitchell, Ray Lucas,AJ Feeley, etc also received from "hopeful" fans but the signs just aren't there.

If Lemon has to come in we'll struggle.

We might very well find out if your prediction is true. Andy Cohen wrote an article about how Fins QB's have made poor decisions in the clutch in recent years, and what a dreadful impact those poor decisions have made. Trent Green has "it". John Beck has shown "it" in college- the ability to make clutch plays that win games. Does Lemon have it? Probably not, but I'd like to find out. I just get the sense that he might have some of "it" after all, whether or not he has enough is another story. I see him as more than just typical backup fodder, we'll see what happens this year.

Those r some crazy things that happened to both teams

True. And as part of my post alludes to, not a lot of fans in St. Louis probably thought much of Kurt Warner, either.

Not likely but that was an entertaining post nevertheless. I think it more likely that Green will lead us to the playoffs than Lemon, but we'll see. It really depends on the OL. My question to you would be this: Did the Rams completely overhaul their OL in year 3?

GO PHINS~!

We'll see what happens. You're right in that if the Fins had great faith in Lemon's potential, then the all-out effort to acquire both Green and Beck wouldn't have been necessary.

I think Lemon will be cut next year. He's on the roster because he knows thwe system. The one way he stays, is if Beck is a complete bust or Green misses the majority of the season. We will pickup at least one more QB next year and right now it seems as if Lemon is odd man out

Lemon is very mobile from what I saw last season, that could help us out a lot behind a big question mark of an O line.
