I think Saban's strategy was correct for building a championship team. However, I think he's made some horrible decisions regarding personnell. Whether he realizes he cant coach up every single player or not will determine whether he has success here. Last year he brought in Linehan and Frerotte to run Linehan's offense. Gus was fine for a one year fix while the rest of the offense got used to playing but he's a horrible quarterback. People seem to forget how his accuracy disappeared for 30 minutes every single week. Cut to this year, Linehan leaves and he brings in Mularkey. Linehan = good pickup/ Mularkey = the definition of putrid.

He brings in Daunte and Joey. Both are better than Gus, but and this is the key, neither is the answer long term. Daunte has become Brunell physically without the wits and Harrington is fine if you dont throw over twenty yards. Saban has to draft Brian Brohm if he's available to make up for not drafting Cutler. Had we kept the 2nd we couldve packaged it with our first for Cutler.

He brought in Houck to upgrade our offensive line. But it seems to me he failed to bring in the two studs every line needs to be good. it seems we have 8 linemen who can play if paired up with two all stars but none of them is capable of dominating on his own. He has to get two studs either through free agency or the draft

The receiving corps is just mentally soft (welker excluded) i dont blame saban for that but i will blame him if we dont bring in someone next year who's a playmaker and mentally solid. If Brohm is gone and calvin johnson is there we have to take him. mcmichael discusts me this year and if we can replace him to make an example to the team i would be willing to do it if the dropoff in talent wasnt to severe. If it is I would probably have to bring him back

Defensive line was fine. He cant address everything at once so he went out and got great value for the players he brought in while drafting their replacements. If they pan out this will be a textbook case of how to transition effectively

Chowder great pickup, Spragan should be a backup. Outside LB needs to be addressed. Additionally if it was me, Zach would be traded in the offseason. Love the guy but he's on the downside and he's expensive and we're not winning the superbowl next year

secondary. i have no idea what he's looking for back there. there seems to be a decent core there but we probably still need a CB or two. I think our safeties are ok if Jason Allen turns out to be good. We definitely have good depth in the secondary. Our backups are great but we need two more quality starters with one of them being a superstar shut down corner

bottom line he needs to understand better what type of personnell succeeds in the NFL. Its clear his biggest flaw in the first two years was not understanding this. The book's not written on Saban yet. If we have another offseason like 2005 we will be in the playoffs. If its like 2006 Saban may be on the outs

IMO, he placed too great an emphasis here, to the neglect of the rest of the team. EspeciallyLots of FA acquisitions, lots of draft picks here, despite major holes at OL, DB, and possibly WR.

We will not get rid of Zach Thomas. He will be a Dolphin till he retires. For starters he is the heart and soul, like it or not, of our defense. Have you seen our D without him? Even if you think our D is not that good, and it may not be, you have to admit that it is 10X worse without him in there. Also, although he may have a high salary, he constantly is willing to restructure to help the team's cap space. And finally, we would not get anything close to the value he has to this team in a trade. He is a 30 something MLB. I'm not sure how much of a trade market exists for an undersized, 30 yr old LB. We would not get anything higher than a 3rd rounder and I would way rather have him than a 3rd rounder on our team.

I am sure the Charger fans said that about Junior Seau.

Not saying it is going to happen, just saying that anything is possible in todays NFL

It was definitely the story of the 2005 season. I agree that he shouldve spent some more focus on oline. I think he misjudged how pedestrian our talent is there.

i love the guy's heart but he's a 4-3 LB and i just dont think we can keep the guy around for much longer for the money we pay him. the sad part is when we finally hoist the trophy he wont be here

Yea but what did we give to get Seau? Nothing special, if I remember right. And that's exactly what we'd get for Zach. It would be no benefit to us and a huge loss, in my opinion, to lose a guy who leads the league in tackles every year. When the Chargers let Seau go, he wasn't going to the Pro Bowl every year.
