A lot of folks on this board seem to be dead set on us getting Arrington, even after seeing the insane contract Peterson just received. Now, while its cool to talk about how nasty of a trio Thomas, Arrington and Crowder would be, lets be honest: We have close to no shot at acquiring him.

I, for one, would be happy with our FA period if we retain Lance Schulters, and sign someone along the lines of a Sam Adams to a 2 or 3 year deal. Then, we would be free to strengthen our LB core in the draft, going after the likes of Greenway. Heck, maybe even trade down our first for a late first and a second or third with how solid the LB class is.

Big names are nice to think about, but counting on Arrington being a Dolphin is just setting yourself up for a dissapointment.

Re-signing Schulters and signing Adams would be great. But, so would shoring up our Linebackers core. Granted Hodge or Spragan could fill in alright, but ask yourself wouldn't you want a playmaker in that spot?

Oh, I agree with you entirely. The problem is we can't afford that type of playmaker right now. Also, keep in mind, we already have two enviable linebackers in Thomas and Crowder. Most teams would kill to have our CURRENT LB core. Furthermore, adding another quality Defensive Lineman like Adams allows us to play around with JT lining up at Linebacker again.

Arrington would be nice because that would give us JT and Arrington on the outside in the 3/4...

That would be very difficult for any offense to defend. If you slide your blocking toward JT then Arrington gets a shot at the QB...and vice versa...

Donnie Spragen doesn't scare anyone...

That being said...Giving Arrington what Peterson got is risky...Arrington couldn't get a long w/ Joe Gibbs...a bad sign in my opinion...

It might be better to skip out on Arrington and hope we can land a pass rushing LB somewhere else...

Do you think the best option now is to let Saban choose a young guy and transform him
into a playmaker?

That would be my opinion, definitely. Keep in mind, Saban knows these college kids. He knows who can be a player. Arrington is a helluva talent, and I'd love to have him. I just don't think we can pay the bill.

The best idea in the draft is to get the best value at your pick. I think it would be a mistake to enter the draft saying.."I have to have a pass rushing LB" ... That is when "reaches" happen..

Take what the draft gives you...If a bad *** guard or wr or cb falls to you take it.

I think Saban is trying to use FA to plug most of the holes so he can have an open mind on draft day..

I have followed the Redskins closely over the years ( from DC, my friends are Skins fans )...Lavar is an extremely talented guy...but he doesn't play disciplined and he is a questionable "team" player..

He is good though...but you don't want to break the bank on those types of guys...

From a talent perspective he would help us...from an attitude perspective he might hurt us..

I am on the Sam Adams bandwagon..

Alright let me ask you guys, Peterson was injured a bit. How healthy is Arrington, I mean does he have any nagging injuries to worry about if we do sign him?

Yeah after seeing what Peterson got i'm not really counting on us signing Lavar Arrington. He wanted big money before the J.P. signing now he's going to want money even worse. I would be extrememly happy if just traded out of the 16th spot and got a late first and a 2nd round pick in exchange.

I'd be thrilled with that too, given the depth of LB and DB in this draft. Arrington has known discipline problems, and we know how Saban is about discipline.

Also, another idea to consider is that if we trade down for a late 1st and a second, there's the option of drafting a player like Sinorice Moss, and then grabbing a quality LB in the 2nd.

ENTER MANNY LAWSON...him and crowder would be lethal together for a decade atleast... JT is primary playmaker
