Now i want to start by saying one thing: Like everyone else I hate coming on here and reading all the Ginn posts that constantly get put up, but with that said i feel like one thing must be cleared up. Many people on this forum like to state how Ginn is a bust, is too small, to short, is a pansy because he never takes the hit. That he will never be a good WR simply because of everything that was stated above.

Marvin Harrison: 6ft, 185 pounds, very fast, hands like glue
Ted Ginn: 5ft 11, 181 pounds, very fast (maybe faster), hands like glue

So the consider all the criticize towards Ginn. Is he too short? I would say the answer to that question is NO. Is he too small, obviously not. Does he not take hits YES i agree to this comment. But that raises a bigger question? Does he half to? Marvin has made a career running simply slants, fades and sideline routes that do not require him to have to overpower the defense. Y can he do this? The answer to this question is because of his speed and because of his great heads, two assets that cause extreme problems with CB. So this raises the next important question, y hasnt Ginn shown himself?

Well to answer this, lets consider the differences between Harrision and Ginn. Obviously Harrison has proven himself and Ginn has not, but it must be noted that Ginn is in his second year and Harrison is 13th year. Secondly it must be noted that Marvin did not break 1000 yard receiving until his 4th season. Finally the other noted difference is that Marvin has this guy named Payton Manning throwing to him. Ok, now we have gotten to the important part. What has helped make Marvin so successful, due to his physically small statue? Well the answer to that question is Payton Manning. Defenses know that on every play Payton has the potential to throw the ball 80 yards (because he has the arm that can do so). Unfortunately Ginn has never had that ability and CBs are able to play him tight on every play not giving him enough space. Thus Marvin has always had the space to use his speed to his advantage and make blow by defenders.

Now here is my belief to a very important question: What would happen if Ginn was on a team with a QB with a cannon arm? I believe that Ginn would be a pro-bowl WR and this is something I am will to take the heat for either now or 10 years from now.

So in conclusion, before we go about bashing Ginn every week lets try to consider some of the stuff i have said, and lets consider that we do not really have a QB starting for us that can utilize Ginns attributes.

ginn is probably faster than harrison, but he can't run routes like marvin...but i think he could get there with an arm like hennes

Harrison is a much better route runner than ginn will ever be and Marcin will take a hit. Beleive me, I hope Ginn is our next great wideout, but he has to do something. Until then he looks more like a bust for a number 9 pick. He aslo has had plenty of time develope thats the part that sucks.

Ted Ginn can't get open.

Let me start by saying one thing: I have watched every minute of every game this year and i have seen him open plenty of times and the ball was never thrown his way. And secondly have you ever considered why he cant get open? He needs space to get open and he knows who his QB is, he knows the "red line" of where he cant go past and thus the routes our offense has him run are dictated around Pennington's abilities. Its simple: Ginn nees space to be successful. When a CB knows the ball isnt going beyond 20 yards then the CB can line up tight on WRs and give them no space so thus CBs are always on Ginn like glue and he cant create the space he needs within the 20 years that he has to where Pennington can throw him the ball.

For varification of this, look what happened when Henne came in at the end of the Arizona game. If you notice Ginn was very successful and the defense played deeper than they would have against Pennington

Again Coles is not as fast as Ginn, is maybe a little stockier, and was'nt a number 9 pick, yet he did very well with Pennington, even after the surgeries. If you can explain that then I will go with your assumptions.

Here is what seperates Ginn and Harrison (actually Ginn and basically any successful receiver). Ginn is afraid to take a hit. He shows this on punt returns and he has shown it repeatedly as a WR, when instead of cutting up the field or taking on a DB for the extra 2-3 yards, he gutlessly veers out of bounds. As a matter of fact, he did this in the SD game when we were trying to RUN CLOCK! Not only did he stop the clock, he wimped out of bounds 1-2 yards short of the first down. I saw Porter on the sidelines light into him afterwards, and he totally deserved it. Harrison is a football player. Ginn is a track star with pads. It's that simple. Without the killer instinct, willingness to get hit and take one for the team, you will never be top notch like Harrison or others.

This is the only part of your post /i agree with.

Me too. It's ridiculous to compare the family guy to Marvin Harrison.

He has improved & I think he still can get much better, but he will never be a good 1st round pick, face reality.
