Scott Linehan has been on the sideline for only the last three games.

Our points per game with him upstairs in the booth:

16.2

Our points per game with him on the sideline:

26.7

More importantly, we've WON all three games.

Stay on the sideline Scott! :D

The funny thing is I want to know why the big stat difference.

Coincidence? Did he have to many folks in his ear up in the booth, or not listen to others while up in the booth? Are players on the sideline helping him by letting him know what happens on the field, etc.

It has to be a reason...just wonder what other differences there are with him on the sideline. I love the results though. And not just the scoreboard.

good observation, I didn't know that.
Don't get to see much games in central florida.

Part of the big point difference is factors that have nothing to do with Linehan being on the sidelines, BUT, a big part of it IS him being on the sidelines.

It is definitely better. You can see the players just executing things better.

I think it's what I've boldfaced.

Think about it this way -- a player comes to you as coach and says, "Coach, I think we can run X play and burn them with it." When you call that play (whether it's sooner or later), how much effort do you think you're going to get from that player?

It's human nature to give more effort when you've had some input in a decision. And don't talk to me about how these guys should be giving X amount of effort no matter what because of the money they make. They're all still human, not robots.

Linehan's being on the sideline makes him a bigger "ear" for the players. That's what it is at least IMO.

Right, and I'd attribute that to what I wrote in my post above. The players have more of a hand in the offense now, so they're playing in it with more effort.

I agree that is a big part.....but also wonder the credit the coaches still in the booth should get....which is great...spread all the positives to this change around. I agree with CK, its got to be more than just Linehan on the sideline, but its been nothing but W's with it....glad it was decided to move him down close to Nick.

Why does it have to be more than just Linehan on the sideline?

Because that implies that to win or play better, all you have to do is move your OC down on the sideline.

Logic says its more than just that. Not upset with the results, just think reasons exist to explain why its working more than "we moved Scott down on the sideline and now we are playing better and winning -- woohoo how great is that" kind of thinking.

I dont know how, but since Linehan has been on the sidelines. Chambers has played 3 of his best games. Maybe its just a case of the players and coaches finally starting to get to know each other. Its working though, dont change it!

I don't think it necessarily implies that at all. Linehan could be the kind of coach who loses his feel for what the players need or for what's going on with them on the field unless he's on the sideline. That may not be the case for other OCs around the league.

And we may have the kind of players on offense who respond with a lot more effort when they're given a hand in the offensive decision-making. That may not be the case for other offensive players in the league.

And to put both of those explanations together, I think what we're seeing is an offense that WASN'T "listened to" by Linehan until he went down to the sideline, so I think we're seeing a kind of extra effect based on that. I think the offense felt like Linehan's finger wasn't on their pulse much of the time during the first 10 games of the year, and now they're really getting after it knowing that it is now.

I would like to know what fans think of Linehans O now. Are we becoming and O that you can plug a QB into? Like the Denver O with the RB's? With two different QB's lighting up teams it's sure does look that way. Could you imagine this team with a stedying force at the QB position??

We are getting better every week. Our D isn't playing lights out like Chicago, but we are keeping the games winable on D. I can't wait to see how this team will look next year.

that's alright, I guess you didn't see this thread, because they could have been merged

sun-sentinal article, about Linehan and Miami's recent success on offense
Good move by Saban. Miami's offense has come alive in the past weeks.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...ports-headlines pretty good read.

and what you said kind of reiterates what this article is about. it's no big deal though

Linehan is a good coach, and i've said it throughout. I think his system works, but being on the sidelines seems to have helped the offense. I would assume he can communicate better with the players and what they see and what can work. It's funny because their was alot of fire Linehan threads, like their were alot of Brown is a bust fan, but winning cures all.
