I have thought about this for a good amount of time. I don't believe Linehan will be very successful in St. Louis for 3 reasons:

1. He is inheriting a poorly managed pool of players. Linehan is known for aggressive coaching, but not for "realligning" players.

2. St. Louis was ranked 30th in the NFL in total defense this season. They will have the "Miami of 85-95 syndrome" that produced 51-48 losses to the Jets, etc. They will put up points (maybe with the aging WRs), and get shelled on the D side of the ball.

3. Linehan's "system" is very dependent upon a defense that can keep the opposing team's offense OFF the field, so his offense can stay on the field. Does St. Louis have even enough of a D to allow less than 21-24 points a game?

4. I just wanted to put a '4th' reason on here, because St. Louis will be seeing alot of 4th and 10 next year.

The odds are against him to be successful off the bat. The key will be assistants that he puts in place and whether the players "buy" into his philosophy. Before Saban started the odds were against him as well.

I wish him the best, but that organization is pretty poor.

Oh, yeah. It's poor. They made 2 Super Bowls in the past 7 years, but they're poor.

:shakeno:

Linehan is going to be fine if he brings in somebody qualified to fix the defense.

I actually wish Scotty L the best and thank him for being with us for a year. You cannot blame someone for wanting to be a head coach.

If the Rams hire Jim Bates, that franchise will be on the up-and-up.

Yeah, these don't make any sense.

And maybe you should give Linehan at least a week with the Rams' to see what he does with the defense/defensive coordinator. Couldn't even give him that, eh?

I hope he does well. The Rams are can be pretty good. They have Holt, Bulger, Bruce, Jackson on offence. The need a a few defensive players. If they get a few players on defence, he will be successful.

They were in 2 superbowls , the last being 4 seasons ago. In those 4 seasons they have not rebuilt their core very well. They have not drafted great players, and they have gotten old. The days of Marshall, Kurt, and the greatest show on turf are behind them.

You mean Coakley, Claiborne, Archuleta (who may leave), & Leonard Little?

The lambs have the talent just no one to mold it or even give a damn the last few years. I don't see that changing even with Linehan possibly hiring Bates.

One positive might be Miami has a logical trading partner for Madison. Imagine this Damione Lewis & a conditional 5th/6th rounder for Sam.

i wish linehan luck yes, but the only talent in St. Louis is again talent. and stephen jackson.

sorry if i came across as negative in reference to SL. i wish him the best in stl. anytime your assistants get promoted to head coach it might hurt you short term, but it has to help attract top drawer talent.
