When Arthur Ray walked onto the practice field at the Doctors Hospital Training Facility at Nova Southeastern University on Friday morning, he was doing his best to focus on the first practice of the rookie minicamp and not get too caught up in the moment.

It wasn’t easy.

For every player like Ray attending the Dolphins rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, just getting the opportunity to show NFL coaches he belongs is thrilling. It’s especially rewarding for Ray considering the road he traveled to get here.

“I’ve been through so much,” Ray said after practice. “Such a journey. I’m just so blessed, so blessed to have an opportunity to be down here in Miami, down here representing the Dolphins organization.”

Ray’s journey is one of perseverance, one marked by highs and lows.

It began in 2007, just weeks after Ray had signed a scholarship to Michigan State University, when the offensive lineman was diagnosed with bone cancer.

Wish him the best but in reality he might want to try a new profession

My dad is actually going through stage 4 bone /prostrate cancer so this hits home. Best of luck to you Sir.

Charismatic guy and seems like a natural born leader. Don't know anything about his game but love his demeanor.

What a great story. If he doesn't make it here, I hope he makes it somewhere. How do you not root for that guy?

Cold reality - is he good enough to contribute or not? This is a great feel good story of overcoming life's adversities and it's great that he gets an opportunity to showcase his talent, but I don't want him on the team just out of kindness. The coaches and player evaluators should know very quickly if his football ability is good enough to make it, or not.

cancer is everywhere and its awful... ive been struggling past few years with family and friends struggling with, as well as passing because of cancer. too many people

i love that he is doing well and actually at least having this opportunity. best of luck to him, its great to see!!!
