Lions Fire Marinelli

It had to be done because you just can't retain someone who goes 0-16 in todays day and age. What would that say to your fan base?
However i believe Marinelli is a good coach, and i admire that he had the Lions playing HARD all season long despite their situation. They did not lay down easily to go winless, they played many tough games which displayed their lack of talent at certain positions (especially defense). It would have been easy for them to just quit and lose every game by 40 points, but they didn't.
Marinelli got the short end of the stick because his front office and team management had no clue how to build a football organization and left him holding the ball.

I agree. Marinelli isn't that bad a coach. He was just stuck with a clueless FO who gave him no talent to work with. Of course, the Coach always gets ****ed in those situations though. I don't think Mangini is that bad a coach either.

The case was Rod Marinelli never got any free rein from the terrible front office which appears in Detroit.
If things has to turn around in Detroit, then the family Ford has to bring some new fresh blood in.
For me to see Mr. Ford seems too much dependent on his current front office. I read an article yesterday on a pro football weekly that he had chosen to promote some guys from his own "house". Maybe it helps? Maybe not. But I certainly think that a team as Detroit Lions would need something totally new not just on the head coaching position but all the way around.

I have always liked Rod. He seems very nice and is known as a hard man in this business and it is certainly not his fault alone that the team has gone 0-16 this year. There are many things going against him. Everything from playing material for coaches and a lousy GM which fortunately was kicked out from Detroit after several years of pain.
Rod Marinelli will get a job elsewhere. Maybe not as head coach because it is not exactly a campaign you want to go to job interviews with just after being fired. But his chance will come again later.
But it must be unsaid who dare to take a chance in Detroit these days. Rumors are talking a lot about Steve Spagnuolo or Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
Could easily see Steve Spagnuolo end up there. Will he be interested??!
