Lions are looking to trade right now -- and then again later
The Lions are being flooded with trade offers and there's been some speculation out there that president Matt Millen is going to be patient because the price can only go up. But that's not true. According to my sources, the Lions already know what they want out of that No. 2 pick and, if a team steps up to the plate right now, the Lions will pull the trigger.

What's interesting is that there are believed to be several different targets for that No. 2 pick, from Calvin Johnson to JaMarcus Russell to Adrian Peterson to Joe Thomas. The Lions don't have a pressing need for any of those positions so they're willing to drop down. And here's the kicker: the Lions, depending on how far they fall, will be willing to trade down again.

The Lions would like to land Clemson DE Gaines Adams but if they can continue to stockpile picks, they'd be just as happy to fall a little lower and fill some desperate needs like middle linebacker and the secondary.

The point is this: Millen plans on wheeling and dealing for the next six weeks and the ultimate goal is to fill as many needs with as many "Marinelli types'' as possible. A few weeks ago, I said the Lions roster could see a 40 percent turnover going into next season. I now believe -- especially if Millen pulls the trigger on a trade or two -- that that number could exceed 50 percent.

I'd offer them Culpepper...Chambers and Ricky....plus our 2nd rounder....for a shot at C. Johnson.

I like the idea above but if we offer Pepper, Chambers and a second rounder (mainly the one the Pats gave us) and get CJ, which would be great, there is still no guarentee that Stanton would be there in the early second since the Lions might pick him up late in the first. Decisions, decisions...

What would it take to move up to the second spot??? Probably cost us too much for a team that has so many needs.

I wouldn't worry about Stanton....all we need is Green for a 6th rounder.

pipe dreams........they would never deal with us if they want Gaines Adams. ?The idea is to be at the spot you know no one else is going to take him while gaining picks.

Normally I'd agree with you....but IF you want greatness....sometimes you have to go for it. The best player on the board is Johnson....reminds me of when Moss came out....every team that passed on him....regrets it today.

And that would be somewhere around the 5th-6th pick overall.

Read the story again....they would like to have him....but have more needs to fill....and this;

I think the price would be too high for Miami to move up to #2....I think we should just stay where we are at.....take the BPA, and go from there...it is not like one position player is going to turn us around...we need help at O-Line, QB, a d-back or two, some younger d-lineman. We can't give up picks.

Miami needs to make them an offer they can't refuse. We're desperate for a Qb, and with 9 picks at our disposal this year, we're going to have a great opportunity to make it happen in my opinion....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

Are you crazy! You are willing to give up our 3 most proven offensive players and our 2nd round pick for a receiver that hasnt played an NFL snap yet. Not only are u giving up 3 players that have been to atleast 1 pro-bowl each, who the **** is going to throw CJ the ball, Ray Lucas?

Less we forget about the players who will be waived after the draft. I agree with you....on this part....I wouldn't trade up for Russell or Quinn...but C. Johnson is a total different subject....heck you don't need Russell or quinn with him....just throw the football up and let him go after them....the guy is 6'5" and has 42 verticle....how is a 6' corner going to stop him...stand on his feet?

Culpepper, Williams, Chambers, and the 60th overall to exchange 1s and throw in Mare to exchange 2s.

#2) Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech 6-5 239 4.35
#34) Drew Stanton QB Michigan St. 6-3 1/4 226 4.71
#71) Doug Free OT Northern Illinois 6-6 1/4 324 5.22
#104) Doug Datish C Ohio St. 6-4 1/8 302 5.13
#166) Kenny Scott CB Georgia Tech 6-0 7/8 179 4.39
#183) Chris Henry RB Arizona 5-11 1/4 230 4.40
#200) Dedrick Harrington MLB Missouri 6-3 245 4.75
#219) Michael Allan TE Whitworth 6-6 1/8 255 4.71

[Edit] Trade a 4 next year for Trent Green that turns into a 3 if he throws for over 3,500 yards.

It won't be Culpepper....Chambers is over-rated and Ricky is a joint away from a life time ban....lets move on.
