While Steve Young is the first left-handed quarterback entering the Hall of Fame, Dan Marino is not the first to wear the No. 13 (He first wore that number, by the way, in Little League baseball. His dad was the coach, and he made Danny pick his uniform last among the players, which is how he wound up with the supposedly unlucky number). Five others who wore No. 13 preceded Marino into the Hall: Guy Chamberlin, Pete Henry, Don Maynard, Joe Stydahar and George Trafton.

Marino will be the 26th Pennsylvania native inducted at Canton. No state can claim more Pro Football Hall of Famers. Texas ranks second with 24 and Ohio third with 21. Marino is the fourth from Pitt, joining Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett and Joe Schmidt

god, this marino nostalgia is killing me, we were so lucky. somebody invent a time machine quick...

He was actually the reason i became a fins fan. When i was like 4 or something my dad took me and my brother to the mall and we were in a sportings good store and we each picked out one of those football sets where you get like a jersey, pants, helmet, shoulder pads, my brother picked a raiders one and i picked a dan marino one (which pissed my dad off cuz he's a giants fan). The worst part is the only time i got to see them play in person is against the freakin jets. The last time marino wasn't able to play and it hurt watching him stand on the sidelines on crutches. I guess it was made worse by the jets fans giving me a hard time and swearing at me b/c of my dolphins hat and sweatshirt, i was 9 but my dad said they were pretty brutal. The only thing worse is Eagles fans, trust me i live like 45 mins from philly and Eagles training camp is almost in my backyard. I miss Dan:mad:

Long story short!!!!

When Marino was working at HBO he found out a young guy that worked w/ the show was newly married , had a new baby , and lost everything to a fire in their apartment. Marino stopped the guy in the hall and asked if he heard this right. The guy answered yes he did. Marino then reached into his pocket and pulled out his wallet. He handed the guy a large sum of money(the source would not reveal the exact amount, only that is was thousands). He then asked about the baby. Learning that they lost everything for the baby as well, he stated to go to a website of a friend of Marino's that sold all sorts of baby stuff from clothes to toys, you name it. He told him to buy whatever they wanted and to basically spluge. He said he would take care of the bill. He took this guy he really did not know and helped them to replace everything that they lost other than the memories(pictures of coarse).

This is the heart of a True HERO and a True CHAMPION!!!!!!!

God Bless!!!!!

These Stories make you realize one thing... Super Bowl Ring or Not, TD records or not, HOF or not, Dan is someone i am proad to call my Hero.

not really a sappy story but a funny one i posted it a while bak but ill post it again
i used to play against dan marino's son in hockey wen i was around 10 years old wed play against each other all the time and marino even though he was still playing would go to every game (unless hes in another city for a game) so we were playing and that previous week marino had a sup par game by his standards and my little brother had heard my dad scream dan marino dont throw the ball to the other team. so the next week my dad points out the legend watching his son (his version of disguise are sunglasses and a pitt hat) and my idiot little brother goes up to him and taps him on the bak of his leg. dad turns around and gets on one knee and says "hi" my brother immediately says" dan doritoes dont throw the ball to the other team." dan just looks down at him shrugs his shoulders and says" i try not 2". he later asks dan to play catch and he agrees throwin perfect lefty spirals that knock my little brother over. i am forever pissed off that i never got to play catch with him.
