He recieved a boatload of money and played terribly last year. What's going to happen with him?

Is he going to be cut loose, is he restructuring...?

By the looks of the McIntosh negotiations, it seems he'd be the first in line to get a crack at filling the LT position. If that is in fact the case, I think it'd be for a year and we'd look to draft one in 2008, as the only real solid LT right now would be Joe Thomas, who's going to be to expensive for us to trade up to get. Just MHO.

OMG- No for Shelton at LT. Better do better than that or bring in some more QB's cause Daunte isnt gonna make it through the season IMO

WHY? Shelton played pretty good at RG and teaming him side by side with Carey tilts the field. If you put Fonoti at LG maybe you could balance things out again.
Given the salaries guys are going to get in FA Shelton is very reasonable as a starting guard especially if he can play at a high level. Remember he was switched mid year so this year he will have all camp to get comfortable. I say don't mess a good thing on the right side. Fix the rest including center if possible. I'd love to see Alabi get a shot - Cam and Houck in SD had success giving young guys a shot - heck with the overpaid middle of the road FA guys.

Shelton will probably be our starting LT this coming season. I'm not sure why some of you are saying that Shelton was so much worse than McIntosh. At the start of the season Shelton was our LT. After some injuries at RG McIntosh was plugged into that position. However, it became obvious that McIntosh couldn't play inside but Shelton could. So the natural solution was to plug Shelton in at RG and move McIntosh back to LT. In other words, Shelton didn't "lose" the starting job. Don't you think that if McIntosh was the better LT, Shelton would be the one being released instead?

:yeahthat:
Shelton was a mauler at guard. He won't restructure. His agent will give some crap like his stellar play at RG last year doesn't justify taking a paycut yadayada. I'd prefer him to but I can live with him as an overpaid RG. He better get his *** in gear and play well all next year though.

Yes he did, in week 6 I believe (the first time we played the Patriots this past season) Saban had the line shuffled. Shelton went to RG and McIntosh went to tackle.

Boatload? Where are you getting your facts? For an LT he is well under paid. For a guard, he is making decent money (2.9 cap hit). But, doesn't come anywhere near the 7 million per year Dielman is seeking.

Shelton was decent for the Eagles, but they run a much different offense than us. Shelton was a bad signing from the start.

I'd say Shelton's contract is fine now considering the huge increase for salaries this year.

Shelton signed last year a 4 year $15 million contract which isn't exactly huge. Shelton received a $3.5 million signing bonus, a $750,000 roster bonus and a $1.25 million base salary for this past season as part of the deal. So he'll play RG next year with a revisiting of his contract after that (as his base salaries go into the $3-4 million range).

It doesn't really matter if he lost the LT job or was moved due to injuries/someone else's poor performance. The fact is that the line played MUCH better with Shelton at RG. Leaving him there would give us a better chance of continuity, as well as better odds that we actually build off of the progress we had along the o-line last year. Shuffling linemen around so we have new starters in multiple positions will only set us back. At the very least, we should keep Hadnot/Shelton/Carey together so we can focus on the left side specifically.
