Ok, we've all read the reports, and we've all seen how excited they are with our starting OL for both the future and the present.
This regime has expressed on multiple occasions how they are going to tinker with the bottom of the roster continuously thoroughout the year. With that said, I think it is safe to say one area that will be addressed through cuts of other teams is at the backup OL positions.
Trey Derilek, Ike, et al are fighting very hard for their positions right now, and have a chance to make the team as backup lineman. To me, I'd have to say the regime will look at other team's rosters for possible guys who fit their mold at the position. Sparano is a former OL coach, who likes to use the term "people mover" and "Earth mover" when describing his lineman. Parcells is known to love size in his lineman, and neither are afraid to insert some lesser athletic lineman into the lineup, as long as they meet the above criteria.
So, who are some fringy guys on other teams' rosters who fit this criteria and may be cut? Let's look at the obvious team in Dallas first:
Pat McQuistan- (6'6", 311) Played in all 16 games for Dallas last year as a backup, and has the size requirements needed. James Marten was a 3rd rounder and may take his job, would get snatched quickly if he does IMO.
Doug Free- (6'6", 308) Played sparingly, but 4th rd pick of Dallas last year.
James Marten- (6'7", 303) One of these three will get cut most likely.
Guy Whimper- (6'5", 302) Man with funny name has potential.
King Dunlap- (6'8", 310) Inconsistent effort guy, was 7th rounder this year out of Auburn.
Winston Justice- (6'6", 320) May not have the fire for a Parcells.
Kirk Barton- (6'5", 310) Tough guy could backup RT, G. 7th rounder this year.
Chester Adams- (6'4", 335) People moving G, was 7th rounder out of Georgia.
Breno Giacomini- (6'7", 303) Doubtful to be cut, 5th rounder for GB. We sent guys to watch him prior to draft.
Marcus Johnson- (6'6", 321) Former 2nd rounder has fallen out in Minn.
Geoff Schwartz- (6'6", 321) Det. 7th rounder is huge, but slow.
Brandon Keith- (6'5", 343) Former Ok transfer to N. Iowa was Ariz. 7th rounder. Sent to watch him prior to draft.
Demetrius Bell- (6'5", 303) Super athlete from tiny school was Buff. 7th rounder.
Mike Kracalik- (6'8", 337) Backup for Balt. could fit our scheme.
Corey Clark- (6'5", 305) 7th rounder for SD, can play G/T.
These guys all seem to fit the size requirements, have a chance to be cut, are all younger with some potential, and guys we could see trevolving around the bottom of our roster later in August. Not a comprehensive list, but all guys I like as developmental players.
