I think the penalties we've had this year are symptomatic of a larger problem on the team that will rear its ugly head tonight against KC -- the players are anxious and on edge. The announcers for the Denver game quoted Zach as saying, "Everyone's on edge -- and I mean everyone."

And that was before we'd lost any games -- how do you think it is now that we're 2-3 and coming off two losses in a row riddled with penalties?

The fact that we had nearly as many penalties against TB even after Saban addressed the issue last week by having the team run gassers suggests that the players aren't committing penalties because they're lazy, lax, or unfocused.

It suggests that they're committing penalties because they're anxious and on edge. And judging by the quotes from Saban and the players this week, I don't think the problem is getting any better.

An anxious football team isn't a very good one.

When something happens three times in a row, you can be pretty certain there's a pattern and an underlying cause, and if my prediction about tonight's game is correct I'll float a theory tomorrow about why the team is anxious. If they prove me wrong tonight and get a win with a lot fewer penalties, I'll flush it down the toilet.

Don't feel bad. A lot of my theories are last seen there....

I hope I'm dead wrong, believe me, but I'm not liking the feel I'm getting from this team right now.

Mabey, but I dont think it's that complicated I think it's more of a confidece issue;
I'm not one of those people that says were gonna win every game (though it'd be nice) but we lost 2 I dont wanna say easy but winnable games Vrs. bills and jets and a third vrs. tampa AG (after griesie)
The penalties will receed after a little sucssess and more importantly RYTHM!
Tonight I'm worried about #23 RED I hope/ he dosent kill us. This will be a tuffy and no shame on the Phins if they cant pull this one out. but I still say It's 50/50 till kick off.

Your theory might be decent, but I think it will be too much to overcome for the Chiefies to fly into Miami the same day they play. It will affect them negatively and we win a close one with MUCHO penalties and TO's on both sides.

I thought about this too and you could be right. Then again it could really bring them together to be on a flight together and facing some adversity before the game, thinking that people will give them less of a shot because they're flying the day of the game. In other words, the plane ride could basically be a pep rally.

That would be one hell of a game to watch.

At least we made 1 step forward in benching McDougal.
Right, but who knows whether that will just make the other guys MORE anxious? The threat of losing your starting job could make you play on eggshells, especially if you're already anxious to begin with.

Just beat a strong team in front of the home crowd, coming off a bye week.....

2 very important division games upcoming. In what appears to be a chase for the wild card......

Game against an underrated opponent (having looked woeful at various times this season) in an apparent rebuilding phase....

Normally scheduled game that would not have been a markee matchup, moved to Prime Time spot on Friday night.....

Practice week cut short 2 whole days....

Difficulty scheduling "on time" transportation, resulting in a late arrival on game day....

Opponent self-destructing with careless penalties due to overzealous efforts.....

Coach re-addressing discipline while holding players accountable...

Kansas City Chiefs: nothing to prove....

Miami Dolphins: nothing to lose.....

Smells like a trap (game) to me.
