Just thought it would be a nice topic looking ahead a couple weeks. I just realized we have ten days to prepare! That is nice... And we'll need it, what a test to start with!

My Thoughts:
We try to stop Turner and force them to pass with constant pressure from JT, JP, Wake, Starks and whoever else they throw at Ryan!

Against their defense run the ball straight up the gaps on there front line. After viewing the game against the "Chargers," the defense seemed to be vunerable against screen plays.

Thoughts?

turner is focus #1 thats gotta be a given we don't stop him we don't win period. Focus #2 scares me just as much as #1 and I believe thats TG he wont be easy to stop either especially the way our safties have looked so far. I really feel like this game our offense is gonna have to put up a lot of points to pull out a W

10 days to prepare and still don't even know the final roster. Here's to hoping the team is up for it!

If they jump out up 10 or 14 and we have to change our gameplan - it could get Arizona-ish type ugly. We need to score early so JT and JP can get after the QB. If they get out early and pound Turner on the edges - they can eat up a lot of clock.

I hope Langford has a monster year.

Just remember Atlanta didn’t show us anything in that preseason game either. It’s going to be a very competitive game for us.

Againts Atlanta, I think the best bet is to establish the power run game a la the game against San Diego last year. I know LT wasn't at his best, but Turner will be, and they have a LOT of weapons. The longer those weapons aren't on the field, the more tired an already suspect D they'll have. This makes me somewhat nervous as our interior run game has looked shaky at best in some spots, then seems to break out in others (the Carolina game).

The two biggest concerns I have will be matching up with Roddy White, as great as Will Allen was last year, Larry Fitzgerald ate him up and used the likes of Andre Goodman and Jason Allen to defend Brandon Marshall and Randy Moss respectively. Sean Smith may have shut down Torry Holt, but Holt no longer has the speed and athleticism that White will bring. I'm also cautious of Jenkins as well because we didn't have to face Steve Smith, Mushin Muhammed, Antonio Bryant or Michael Clayton. I almost hope the Saints play their starters the whole first have so we can get the young guys, Smith and Davis, some reps versus Marcus Colston, Lance Moore, et al.

The other matchup I'm worried about is Michael Turner. As average as our tackling has been this preseason, we've only paid dearly once: the DeAngelo Williams video game run. Miss those same tackles against Turner and you'll pay damn near every time.

Honorable mention would be Tony Gonzalez, though we've been able to figure out more of the upper echelon TE's in recent years. I can't seem to recall Gonzo for that matter, Antonio Gates, Owen Daniels, Ben Watson, or even the up and coming Dustin Keller having big games in recent years (not counting 2007) under Saban and Pasqualoni's 3-4 schemes.

We better be focused. The Falcons remind me a out of last year's Cardinals who whupped our tails early on last season. Every week is going to be tough with the schedule we have, but hopefully the guys will be prepared.

i watched the falcons game. couple things i noticed...

*the falcons oline gets a hat on a hat when run blocking. they create nice running lanes for michael turner and arm tackling turner won't work. gonna have to wrap him up. it's gonna be a heck of a test for our defense to stop the run.

*the falcons defense sure doesn't look all that improved to me. we should be able to move the ball on them pretty well with both the run and pass game.

they seem to overpursue and lose their gap responsibilities up front all the time. i think it's the perfect game to run some reverses with ginn and some misdirection plays against.

the falcons front is so intent on getting upfield they are absolutely DESTROYED by screen plays. should see a good amount of those in the gameplan and they should have success.

we gotta attack curtis lofton in coverage. make him run to outside the hashes in pass d he looks like a pretty easy target to for a back to beat one on one. maybe a few wheel routes to ricky or ronnie cause i don't think lofton can stay with either one of them down the field.

the falcons like to cb blitz alot from the qbs blindside. gonna have to get the ball out of hand and not run too many long developing pass plays.

looked to me like jerious norwood may be out which if he is its a big loss as the change of pace back and pass catcher out of the backfield. a homerun hitter.

as aggressive as that defense is i think that we're gonna have a real good chance of success on some trick plays out of the wildcat. especially if we throw the ball out of it.

personally i think david lee and henning are licking their chops over the kind of personnel schemes and opportunities this defense gives offenses.

imo this game comes down to whether or not we can get ryan and company off the field

For whatever reason it may be we never play to great in domes or on turf.
Stl last year was a sloppy game, We never seem to tackle well for whatever reason that is. I just hope Penny doesnt have to throw the ball 30 times.

Yup, Falcons coming too hard really stood out.
That's why SD kept running the screen ... Atlanta was just giving them screen yards in bunches & that makes the rush more cautions ... but NOT Atlanta!! lol

penny should torch this defense they can't stop anything. san diego ran like 6 screens in that game and all but one pretty much popped for big gains.

the falcons front overpursues is susceptible to misdirection and reverses.

we limit ryan and company we win this game. that's the bottom line.

cause i don't see the falcons stopping us.

and the way henning and lee can disguise the screen with different formations and personnel looks i think we're gonna see big plays for our o off screen plays.
