I think as FA approaches we need to look at it in a slightly different manner than fans just throwing names out there for whatever their reasons are.
The FO are building a dominant defense, safe offense with the priority of running the ball and no turnovers. Run the ball, stop the run!
With this I think it's necessary to look at FA's from defensive minded teams like Balt, Pitts, Philly, TB, Ten etc... we want the attitude that most of these players already possess, obviousily with the talent to boot. T.Suggs, B.Scott, R.Lewis, J.Leonhard, A.Haynesworth, B.McFadden, J.Farrior, B.Dawkins, M.Peterson etc.... http://www.kffl.com/static/nfl/features/freeagents/fa.php?option=DL&y=2009
This makes the most sense to me, if your gonna create an attitude on your defense then if your signing FA's then bring them from teams that already have that attitude we've seen the benefits of bringing in J.Porter. Now there are special players that their talent superseed almost everything like a N.Asomugha but then cost has to be factored in aswell.
This applies to the Oline as well, if you want a dominant run game then get the FA's from teams that run the ball dominantly ala J.Brown, M.Goff, T.Thomas, M.Starks, M.Birk. I don't really want to sign guys from teams that have struggled running the ball. Why would you want anyone from Indy, Buff or Cinci for example. If they blocked with any nastiness wouldn't they be kept when running the ball is a struggle there anyways?
This applies to the college draft aswell, not every player has to want to rip your head off every play but when there's the choice between two players coming from two opposite ends of the spectrum you should follow the same rule.
When it comes to WR's, TE's, RB's, QB's and ST players from FA or draft I don't care where they come from as long as their resume dictates that they will help us win a championship in the long run.
This is just my opinion but I believe there's some real value in bringing in players that already have the experience we want not only based on talent alone.
