Rewind 2 years:

Jason Taylor has a monster season. He has 14 sacks on the season, 10 FF, 2 INT, and a TD or 2. The season comes to a close and Taylor wins DPOY honors after the best year of his career.

The offseason comes and goes and no trade happens. Fans were torn between holding onto one of their 2 favorite Dolphins or trading him for a high pick. We all knew that age was catching up with him. We ALL knew that trade value would probably never be as high as it was after that season.

The FO decided to keep him though. We waited a year and wasted a season....just to trade him for a 2nd rounder.

How many of you would have taken a first rounder for the 32 year old JT (aka. reigning DPOY) in a heartbeat in the spring of 2007?

Fast forward to now:

We have Porter at 10.5 sacks and 2 FF. He has to be in consideration for DPOY this year.

He will be 32 in March. I repeat my above question:

How many of you would have taken a first rounder for the 32 year old JT (aka. reigning DPOY) in a heartbeat in the spring of 2007?

Consider this before answering:

Every fan on this site was afraid of losing Porter at the beginning of THIS season. He had that nagging back injury that was rumored to possibly END his CAREER.

I don't want to trade away our best defensive player this offseason, but you can't just dismiss the idea if you look at the regret we had in August for holding on to JT.

Um... just my thoughts, but I kinda favor REWARDING players for their efforts. I remember it is a business, but what kind of message does it send through the locker room if you take your most dominant defensive player and vocal leader and ship him on own the road after a career year?

Depends on the offer.

No doubt, Joey's stock is high this year. But alot can happen between now and the draft.

Where would we be without him this year? He pretty much singly handedly got us a win against the Bills. I dont know if we would have beaten the Pats or SD without him.

Last year we had 1 win, whether we kept JT or not wouldnt have made much of a difference for us, he was left over from old regimes.

Joey is quickly becoming the centerpiece of our Defense and is a tremendous leader on the field and in the lockerroom. I'm not sure we want to lose a guy like that just yet.

That said, if someone made us an offer we couldnt refuse, we should take it.

what exactly do you think you can get for joey porter? do you think a team will give you a first? if so, youre dreaming...

At this pace JP is going to have a better year than JT did when he earned DPOY.

JT didn't have an amazing year last year, but STILL got a 2nd round pick for us. What makes you think we can't get more for JP?

As far as trading away the centerpiece of our defense.....He's going to be 32 years old. The guy is hardly at the prime age for a LB. If he was 'becoming the centerpiece of our D' at the age of 26, and going to be around for another 8-10 years, then there's no way I would even think of trading him.

At 32 years old though....He's going to start losing value after next year. A dominant JP for 3 more years, or a first round stud for 10-13?

He will have a better rushing the qb. Taylor was an allaround monster that year.

I really hope we do NOT trade him. He's my favorite player on the team ... it would be like when we released McMichael for absolutely nothing... and he's still one of the best receiving tight-ends in the league....

My dream for JP would be to play 5 more outstanding years here, win a superbowl, and be remembered as a Fin instead of a steeler. I know that's kind of far-fetched....

of course if a team offers a first round pick you HAVE to take that deal, but I would not trade him for anything less than a pick UNDER # 35-40 in the draft.

Porter will always be remembered as a Pittsburgh Steeler. No matter what he does here, Pittsburgh is where he made his name at. As far as Randy Mac goes, give me a friggin break. Next to Wes Welker, he is probably the second most overrated former Dolphin that gets mentioned around here. For those keeping score at home, McMichael is currently on IR. It's hard to be an alleged "one of the best receiving TE's in the game" when you're on the shelf. Another thing that's funny about that statement is that in order to be a good pass catching TE, you have to able to.... CATCH. Randy dropped more catchable passes than I care to remember. Plus, he sucked as a blocker. Randy was a guy that has all the tools but he can and never will put it all together.
