The Jags signed Ogbah for $3.25M before Mon., which according to this article gets us a 4th rd. compensatory pick in '26. We signed 3 and lost 3, so the Ogbah signing before Mon. gave us a compensatory pick next draft. This is if Ogbah does not pull a Wilkins and ride the bench in Jax.

Personally, I was hoping we would re-sign him for depth. He played well last season IMO.

Cool but comp picks are stupid and screw up the markets imo.

We play by the rules handed to us. We can definitely use an extra 4th rd. pick in '26.

Rules can change though. That’s why there’s a rules committee.

I don’t want GMs like :GRR incentivized to NOT resign good players like Wilkins and Hunt, because there’s 3rd round comp picks for their replacements (if they don’t get hurt). 😢

I think those rules enable small market teams to recoup some loss of talent they cannot afford to retain. I may be wrong on that, but we lost Ogbah anyways, so that 4th rd. pick may get us a player, or draft stock fodder to move up in the draft order.

That’s not why they didn’t sign them though I mean it helps but it was their crazy price tags they had. Neither were worth it, I could semi stomach hunt for 20 million but Wilkins getting 27.5 or whatever might be one of the worst contracts in nfl history. It was about 5 million over what his absolute peak would of been and even that is debatable as that’s around Dexter Lawerence area of pay who I think is a way better player than Wilkins.

But if the safety we signed from Detroit plays a lot we are back to square one where we don’t get a pick, right? Seems odd given the disparity for what Holland signed for.

Only makes sense for something like baseball where there’s no strict salary cap or minimum. Every NFL team has the same window of $ they have to spend every year (along with some funkiness about carrying cap over year to year). I agree the comp formula is dumb.

No I don’t believe the players you sign count against you for more snaps played. He’d count for the lions if he hits a certain snap count however and anyone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe the players you signed count against you. Only apy of deal and the snap % they play for their new team.
