With the 2015 NFL draft up for grabs, New York is out and the race has come down to the nation’s second- and third-largest cities to play host to the multi-day event.

“We’re focusing solely on Los Angeles and Chicago now,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday, speaking to reporters at the Beverly Hilton after participating on a CBS “Thursday Night Football” panel.

The league is considering stretching the draft from three days to four, a concept that would test the creativity of the NFL considering the interest naturally wanes in the later rounds. Still, the TV numbers are staggering. For instance, the first round of this year’s draft drew more viewers than the NBA playoffs (and attracted a larger audience than MLB’s All-Star game.

Of those two, Los Angeles would be my choice. The idea of a 4 day draft is stupid in my opinion, if anything they should shorten back to two days.

Will be nice not to hear Jets fans boo just because a rival AFC East team is on the clock. Los Angeles would be nice as a more neutral spot.

The third day of the draft is already a joke without adding a fourth

4 days? really :|

I miss the original 2-day weekend format. There was a great build up waiting in the morning for the draft to begin and then just veg out for the rest of the weekend watching the draft.

Noone is going to watch past Day 2.

Breaking News: NFL Draft to be held in Los Angeles or Chicago in 2015

It's finally happened - the NFL will move on from New York and won't hold the draft there in 2015. In remarks made to the Los Angeles Times, Commissioner Roger Godell said that they will choose between Los Angeles or Chicago as the host site for the 2015 NFL Draft.

“We’re focusing solely on Los Angeles and Chicago now,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said Thursday, speaking to reporters at the Beverly Hilton after participating on a CBS “Thursday Night Football” panel.

Goodell said they are aiming to announce the decision by the end of the summer. In addition to the location change, he said they are tinkering with options for the last day of the draft to make it more compelling for the TV audience. No final decision has been made in regards to that at this time.

“We had 12 cities that were interested,” Goodell said. “We felt the best thing to do was to focus on the three cities, because they had such a tremendous interest. There are very attractive aspects to each of those cities. Because we don’t have the appropriate dates in May our focus is completely on Los Angeles and Chicago.

“We’re talking about different concepts, primarily how to strengthen the last day and whether we should maybe push that back to the clubs a little bit more and allow the clubs to have a little bit more freedom as more of a club day,” he said. “Maybe they would announce the picks from there. We’re looking at everything under the sun, because there’s a great interest in it and we want to do something that’s more responsive to our fans.”

I went to the NFL Draft last year since I live in Connecticut. Glad I went as it looks like it will be a long time before it comes back to NYC!

Excellent news. Gets it away from the horde of jet fans being assholes every. Single. Year.

Broke in another thread like an hour ago :p

If it goes to LA...expect a new franchise or a team moving there...

Over 2 months ago ex Cowboys Personnel guy, Gil Brandt on Sirius NFL Radio casually let it slip that next year it would be held in Chicago and over 4 days to increase TV revenue. He later backed away from the comment saying he was just an old guy (he's over 80) speculating. However, he is the guy who gets to personally invite all the top draftees. So maybe he is part of Roger Goodell's inner loop on this one.
The NFL's lust for TV revenue turning it from 2 days to 3 and now the prospect of 4, is pretty disgusting to watch. This is just about making more money for billionaire owners (and Roger himself - eg last year's $44M bonus), they don't really consider what the fans want.

People will watch. The draft is huge business and people care.

I shut off satellite this year after my wife was nattering at me for
years to do so. She said.."We can always turn it on when football season
comes around"......

I looked at her and said; "Why do you think I shut it off?"
