Does anybody else just feel that we've been extremely lucky this offseason? Yes, there have been some negative things, such as losing Thomas and Taylor. But I just can't help but look at the positives.

Yea, it's only preseason, but, nonetheless, things are looking good.

Pennington fell into our laps
The FO hit on a 6th round pick in Donald Thomas
Roth seems to be doing better (thank god, we need that)
The last year's worst run defense looks surprisingly impressive
Ricky Williams looks amazing out there.

even in games... like the fumble into the end zone during the Jags game. Football can be changed alot by the luck of the bounce. I'm used to seeing Miami screw up by turning the ball over in the end zone.

Hopefully luck will be on our side again this week and Merling will impress at Porter's spot. We could really use it.

You all know the saying, the night is always darkest before the dawn. Last year we were hit HARD with some bad luck. Injuries plagued us. It seemed like anything the could go wrong, did go wrong. Whenever something good started, our hopes would be crushed. Ronnie Brown started showing his true abilities and then our hopes are smashed when he gets injured. Big plays are called back because of penalties. Game changing plays like Ginn's TD returns.

Well its about time we got some breaks that are in our favor!

I don't know about luck, but we could have done a lot worse. People think because you make changes every off season that's a bad thing. In a way it is, but I look at as having an owner who wants to succeed and if he makes a mistake he doesn't sit on his hands and hope things get better. He tries to make the team better.

As a fan we've had a few disappointing seasons as of late, but how easily we forget all the success we've been a part of. No other fans can look at their teams history the same way us Dolphin fans can, the only real luck I see, is chosing to be a Dolphin fan. We could have made so many other choices and not been nearly as lucky. I'm not happy about the last few years, but in perspective, it's a small price to pay for the awsome histroy of this franchise.

Ehhh, I dont start worrying about the "breaks" until we get into the actual season. Lucky breaks in the off-season and pre-season mean nothing if you go 3-13. We'll do better than that...but only a few game better.

it's even easier for younger fans to forget.

I'm only 23 years old. Growing up, I didn't get to see alot of games. I live in South Dakota and the Vikings are always on Fox. Luckily we had marino so games would occassionally be on CBS. Other than that, I had to hope for prime time. Some of my clearest memories are of miami getting killed by the Bills in the early 90's and staying up until 1:00 AM on a monday night about 10 years ago(I believe it was against the Jets).

I didn't start getting really into football until 2003. That year was a disappointment. I remember watching another team(Broncos maybe?) because us getting into the playoffs depended on that game.

It wasn't until 2005 that I was finally able to watch most of the games. I started going to sports bars and only missed a couple games. I think I missed 2 games in 05, 2 in 06, and 1 game last year. Since I've started watching Miami almost every Sunday, they have went 16-32.

as you said, Miami has had a great history. But 7 years out of the playoffs, especially the last 4 years, is really tarnishing things. Yea, we've had an undefeated season, 5 AFC championships, back-to-back SB wins, and 17 years of the greatest QB to play the game, but we haven't even sniffed a SB for over 20 years.

The last few years have been rediculous. How much bad luck can a team have? Ricky Williams retirement, Wannstedt, Saban, Cameron, bad drafts, 12 QBs, etc. I'm just saying, it's about time that good things finally start happening in Miami.

Thanks for the post feelthepain.

In the NFL you need to be just as lucky as you are good to succeed. Just ask the Patriots.

eh i dont consider ricky williams looking good luck, its luck that we have him on the field. The guy has never been less then a beast in every game hes pretty much ever played.

didnt know cheating was luck? I guess i will have to ask the patriots!

True, he was a beast before and after his retirement in 04. but I still think we're lucky that he's still got it. He's 31 years old and has been out of football for awhile. He came back last year and got injured after a few plays. Make of it what you will, but with Ronnie injured, we're lucky that Ricky's here and playing well.

Well, let me start by saying luck probably has nothing to do with it. We have a front office that knows what they are doing. Wayne got it right on this one. Hiring Parcells saved our franchise.;)

I guess it looks like luck when you're used to the bums who were running this show before the Tuna.

Don't mistake luck for ability!

How about getting:
Fasano, Ferguson & LB from Dallas for 4th and 6th round. Three starters
2 DE in Washington getting hurt and being able to get 2nd round from Wash for Taylor.
Getting Henne at 57th spot.
Merling in second round, he was projected in 1st round
To be succesful you need to good and lucky.

I don't know that we have been getting lucky breaks. I guess after last season where every break goes against us we feel like we are getting lucky breaks when we get through a game without losing several starters. Teams that go far usually get the lucky breaks of few injuries and the ball bouncing their way. Lets just hope this thread doesn't jinx us.

Well, if Porters season or career is in jeopardy right now....I'd say thats NOT a lucky break we just caught.

I knew somebody would say that's it just the FO making good decisions. I agree, the FO is doing great, but they can't control everything.

Donald Thomas - yes, our FO is good at evaluating talent. but a 6th rounder starting his rookie year? come on, we got lucky. Unless you want to tell me that our FO is so smart that we'll have 6th round rookies starting every year now. No, we really needed a RG and we're lucky that Thomas was the pick the late pick that the FO hit on.
Ricky Williams - sorry, Ricky is just amazing. We're lucky he's still got it.
Pennington - we definitely got lucky here! this CANNOT be attributed to our FO. yea, Parcells knows him and is a big reason why he's here. but, unless you can convince me that our FO was the mastermind behind Favre's 'unretirement', I'm not buying the whole FO thing here. Favre returning and being traded to the Jets was pure luck on our part.

Just think back over the last few years and try to remember a time that you really felt that luck was on our side.
