Make or Break year for Ted Ginn?

I agree with nosleep and Geforce in that we spread the ball around it's hard for any WR to put up big numbers. Ginn showed last year that he has really good hands.

He has a problem holding onto the ball sometimes. He had 5 fumbles in 2008 and 3 fumbles in 2007. That's not good.

It's not enough to catch the ball you have to hold on to it.

are we talking about this AGAIN? we talk about this every 2 weeks. do a SEARCH.

I dislike the term "Make or break" I prefer... good contract vs. mediocre contract

He actually only had 3 fumbles in 2008. The other two were just muffed kickoffs that he picked right back up.

I certainly hope Ginn breaks out; if he doesn't, I predict the following thread themes in 2010:

1) "Ted Ginn: Worst First Round Pick In NFL History."
2) "Ted Ginn Single Handedly Set This Franchise Back Ten Years."
3) "Ted Ginn Beat Me Up And Took My Lunch Money, or Why I Have a Somewhat Disturbing and Illogical Hatred For John Beck...uh...I mean Ted Ginn"
4) "Cut Ted Ginn!"
5) "Why We Should Trade Ted Ginn For A Seventh Rounder And Draft The Next Marques Colston."

...and of course...

6) "Ted Ginn is the Antichrist."

...we all need one less thing to whine about. Let's hope he breaks out.

Do you not think that if the #9 overall pick doesn't start putting up those sorts of numbers that some negative threads are warrented? Is all that is supposed to appear is; "I love X Player Because They Are The Greatest!" and then, everyone following on with all their love for said player, no matter how much he is great or sucks?

back off ginn, the kid is doing what we ask for him , if this season he is asked to do more he MUST deliver if not , its not his fault.
this is not a selfish team , dont expect numbers of a superstar..
expect great effort..

Honestly, I don't expect much from him untill next year when Henne will be throwing the ball. Pennington, not to bash him, just doesn't have the arm to get the thing downfield to him. So given the situation I am inclined to give him an extra year. That doesn't mean I will accept a total lack of production or general regression though.

If we wanted a guy to return kicks we should have just drafted Johnnie Lee Higgings. He went #99. He had 22 rec, 366 yards, 4 TD. Then on Punt returns he had 44 for 570 yards and 3 TD. Kick Returns he had 36 for 842 yards. He scored 7 TD last year thats 3 more than Ginn in his 2 years. And Sidney Rice has 8 TD in his 2 years. He went #44. ANd then hes right Breaston is better. The main thing we learned is you cant draft a KR/PR in the top 10 with alot of talent left on the board. I wish BP was there. Because the thing that makes me really sick is the fact that Patrick Willis (315 tackles, 5 sacks, 3 FF, 1 INT, 1 TD), Darelle Revis (8 INT, 2FF,1 TD), Marshawn Lynch, (530 rush attempts, 2151 yards, 15 TD---65 rec, 484 yards, 1 TD) can you imagine how good our backfield would be with Lynch and Brown. Lynch can be a power back , he is a great runner and can also catch. Plus we would have the stability to trade RB or Lynch for a very high draft pick. Lynch if not in trouble would require at least a 1st round pick if not a 1st and 3rd. Aaron Ross (6 INT, 2 TD) Reggie Nelson (7ints), Brandon Merriweather (4 INT, 3 FF), Joe Staley, Leon Hall (8 INT, 1FF, 1 TD) anyways we could have had a very good RB , a dominant LB , 2 good CB, 2 good Safeties, or a good OL. But no we pick a guy that will prob never or let me say never have a 1000 yard season and will never have more than 5-6 TD in a year. We should have just taken Quinn like everyone wanted. At least he would have trade value. That whole draft was one of the worst ones ever. #40 John Beck, #60 Satele worked out Ok but now everyone is bashing him since we traded for an injury prone guy from Oakland, Lorenzo Booker sucked but netted us Fasano and Ayodele, If Dallas wasnt stupid that pick would have blowed, #108 Solai who is not going to pan out. #181 Reagan Mauia is garbage, #199 Drew mormino well no need to say it, #219 Kelvin Smith, #225 Brandon Fields, #238 Abe Wright, Oh yeah and we traded #50 for Joey Harrington. And then there is the fact that NE got Moss for a 2nd round pick and the fact that we traded Welker too. All in all the worst draft ever.

Ted Ginn has 7 career TD's in the NFL.

do you really want to compare cobbs' production to ginn's ? cobbs' caught a towndown on some sort of double reverse out of the wildcat, and chad threw to him wide open. Please, let's not mix apples with oranges

that point wasnt about production - ted was described as a threat to score every time he touches the ball - my point was that the stats show otherwise.

Doesn't matter who's on the receiving end until we get someone who can throw deep consistently.
Why?
Our offense will be a thousand times better if we establish a well balanced system. I mean Calvin is a beast and surely his numbers will triple Ginn stats, but roles are completely different. As long as Lions can't create running yards and throwing as their only desperate move, C-Johnson will keep a high number or yards but a losing team record, while Ted Ginn will better his own stats linked to the way he betters his yards after catch average.
I mean Chad Pennington won't be part of a happy passing system, throwing deep in any play as much as Matt Ryan, Tom Brady or any Manning brother could, in part because of the style of receivers, but mostly because his arm isn't that strong. But his short and middle range passing ratio is excellent, keeping the offense on the field and making points anyway. That's a safer way to win.
