The Fins have made a bunch of bad to mediocre QBs look great this year. Specifically, Pennington (with hurt shoulder), Holcomb, Vick (obviously not bad, but not usually efficient), Dilfer, Bollinger and Pennington have all been extremely efficient against us. Against the Fins, these guys combined to go:

113/173 (65%), 1275, 10 TD, 1 INT, QB Rating: 104.1.

Against the rest of the NFL, these guys went:

718/1273 (56%), 7943, 41 TD, 44 INT, QB Rating: 71.4.

That difference in QB ratings is basically the difference between the best QB in the NFL and the worst. The better QBs, e.g., Brady, Delhomme, Plummer, etc. have not fared nearly as well. How do you explain this difference? The possible explanations seem to be:

1. We blitz more/less against the lesser QBs.

2. We play more/less zone against the lesser QBs.

3. We simply don't scheme as much against the lesser QBs.

4. We try to scheme too much against the lesser QBs.

5. We have a bend-but-don't-break attitude with the lesser QBs.

What do you think?

i think we blitz them more, hoping to rattle them, so we get our CBs stuck on islands out there and it hurts us...

against the good QBs maybe we play more schemes in the secondary and try to get pressure from just our front 4... which i think is what we should be doing more with our above average dline...

Don't worry it all ends next year with better pieces in the 2ndary.

I agree. We got messed up by Bollinger when our blitz's wouldnt get to him or he rolled away from them and found an open man.

Nice job getting the stats together. A big problem we have had is that we let those guys get in a rythm. When a QB gets going, it's hard to stop him and we saw that against the Jets when Bollinger picked us appart. We also have had trouble in our secondary.

We may have concentrating on taking away the run, the old make their weak link QB beat us ploy, which would then allow better stats. I know we were more worried about McGahee than Holcomb or Losman, for example. Plus, I'm sure it's easier to get fired up to play against Brady than Bollinger.

Vick tore us up...but it cost him. We were in his face all day and were knocking him down constantly. We definatly blitz more against non-field generals.

We blitz more and we don't get there leaving our DBs trying to cover the receivers.
