Who do you like more and why?

Me personally I like Jenkins because I think he is the most complete CB to come out in years. When I watch him I really dont see a weakness in his games and he comes from a college that has a pretty good track record churning out CB's

Being an Ohio State fan, it pains me to say this, but Malcolm Jenkins is quite overrated. He's great against the run, and I think he'd be a hell of a FS in the NFL. But if you watch him week in and week out, there are more than a few times that he is alarmingly out of position - particularly in zone coverage. He is also beaten on occasion by lesser caliber WR's. Of the big games I've seen him play, he hasn't really done much save running back the INT against LSU in garbage time and clinching the PSU game in 2006 (though I don't consider that a very big game).

That said, I've not seen much of Vontae Davis, though it's safe to say from what I've seen he's the better athlete. Jenkins is the better college CB due to experience, but I think he may be a FS in the NFL when all is said and done. Davis strikes me as one of those players who's better in the pros than he is in college, so if we're talking of taking a CB, which I think is priority #1 in the draft; give me Vontae Davis at this point.

i agree

I'm a big Jenkins fan, always have been, but lately, his play has been screaming Jason Allen. Seems more of a true FS in the NFL I would have to agree and Vontae seems like the better corner prospect at this point.

To be honest, I'd rather take a pass, go OLB in the first, then take Alphonso Smith or Macho Harris in the 2nd.

i was in the malcolm jenkins camp after last year. however, it is very obvious to me after watching our 2ndary play this year to date we need a legit lock down cover corner. i see malcolm jenkins as a guy with good ball skills but who will get beat in coverage and not be a lock down cover guy.

count me in the vontae davis camp now. i think he's be a perfect long term #1 cover corner for this team and a much needed influx of youth.

another guy who may not be on peoples radar but really needs to be is ras i dowling cb uva 6 ft 2 200 lbs. listed as a soph but did one year of post grad school so is eligible this year. i haven't seen him get beat yet this year and he's very good in coverage and has excellent ball skills. is a sure tackler also. gonna be a player. i just wonder what he'll run. on tape he looks to me like a 4.4 guy. let me also add that dowling completely shut down derrius heyward bey in their matchup earlier this year. made him a complete non factor.

i wouldn't be opposed to using our top 2 picks on these 2 corners the way our secondary has looked when matched up with playmaking wrs.

the more i watch mauluga ilb the more i think he overpursues and overruns plays too much and gets swallowed up by blockers in the run game. laurinitus ilb makes tackles but imo doesn't make game changing plays.

vontae davis is my current top player on the wish list.

My problem with Davis is he relies way to much on his physical abilities instead of reading the offense and the WR. You can get away with that in college but on the next level WR's will beat you like a rented Mule.

True at times Davis relies on his athleticism to get him by HE IS BY FAR A BETTER COVER CORNER than Jenkins.

Davis will play on the ball more than Jenkins and I think when it comes to pure instincts advantage Davis.

Jenkins WILL BE A SAFETY IN THE NFL.

A DEFENSIVE BACK IS MUCH MORE A PRIORITY IN ROUND 1 THAN A SAFETY.

I really liked Jenkins last year, but I'm less of a fan now. He's gone up against 1 very good offense in USC, and got abused this year. He didn't look overly impressive against Wisconsin (that INT was a gift), and his only play against Purdue was on ST (and on defense anybody will look good with how Curtis Painter has been playing)

I like Davis a lot too, but he hasn't looked as good as he did as a Fr or So so far.

it's because Davis is the numero uno DB in the big 10 so he has a bullseye on him week in and week out so at times he'll prosper and struggle, however I think he'll prosper more than struggle during the stretch run of the season.

WOULD YOU FEEL MORE COMFORTABLE WITH MORGAN TRENT????

Now he's the one who has fallen off dramatically from his freshman year. Last year he looked terrible and even Donovan Warren a freshman last season outplayed him and looked miles and miles ahead better than Trent.

Vontae Davis clearly has the better man coverage skills....and superior athletically....but just as versatile as Jenkins IMO....Davis has played safety too....but fits best at cornerback in the NFL....

Jenkins has what I would call "top" ball skills....but like another poster already pointed out...can be beaten by precise routes because he lacks the fluidity in his hips and elite anticipation skills...

Miami needs a player with top man coverage skills for the blitz packages in this 3-4......between the two....it's Vontae Davis...

I first noticed it a few years ago when Domanick Goodman from UC wore him out all over the field - I believe Goodman was a sophomore or redshirt freshman at the time. I attended the Wisconsin game last year and Paul Hubbard abused him, not to mention LSU and USC in recent big matchups.

Personally, if I had my way and the players to follow actually declare, this would be my dream draft through the first 4 picks:

1. Vontae Davis CB Illinois
2a. Everette Brown OLB Florida State
2b. Demetrius Byrd WR LSU
3. Chip Vaughn S Wake Forest

Of those, Byrd and Vaughn are seniors. But with it, you add a legitimate #1 CB, and if Will Allen is re-signed or maybe a Chris Gamble brought in via FA, you can allow them to sit at the #2 CB spot (where Allen would excel in my opinion due to his lack of ball skills though he's exceptional in coverage); An WOLB who can truly replace Joey Porter - I think Moses will continue to be Roth's backup and Charlie Anderson is a spot player. Brown goes 6'4" 252lbs and can run. Byrd gives Pennington/Henne a true #1 WR target with some size at 6'2", and Chip Vaughn can probably play either FS or SS depening on what happens with Bell, Hill, and Jason Allen. Just my two cents as of right now - obviously subject to change based on who declares, draft order, bowl games, etc.
