Why has he been such a p***y? You'd think that after playing college ball and being good enough to be drafted he'd be a little less delicate:

"Vickerson and Wright are two different people, OK?" Carter said Thursday. "You can't lump them in the same category. It's a disservice to Kevin Vickerson."

Vickerson, a seventh-round draft pick from Michigan State, had little exposure until Thursday, when Carter was asked about the two rookies.

"Kevin Vickerson's been in there every day working his butt off and he hasn't quit, and he hasn't thrown up or passed out, not finished practice or done some of the things that have happened to Manny," Carter said. "Obviously, Manny has some things to work on from a conditioning standpoint and we're addressing those things. But, no, you can't lump the two of them (together)."

I dont think you can refer to any Pro or College player as a "p***y".

He's a project player. There are tons and tons of project players coming into the league every year. What's he has done so far isnt worrying, but it is a little disappointing.

Wright is most definately a project, but thats OK. We knew that when we picked him. The good thing is that the draft pick we used on him comes out of next year's draft.... so as long as he develops and matures enough to contribute by NEXT year's training camp, it's a good pick.

He only cost us a 5th rounder...it could have been a 2nd rounder. :yell:

(My first post!) Apart from not having the mental toughness needed, he really needs tu add more muscular bulk to his body, he must have a lot of body fat % in his massive 330lbs body. At college he played at 290lbs.

A 5th rounder for him is about right. If he can't get with the program and ends up being a bust, it's not too much to swallow, and if he succeeds then it will be one of those "diamond in the rough" scenarios. I think that he will be good if we can keep a couple of DTs in front of him for a couple of years and give him a chance to back up, get into shape and learn how things work.

A 5th rd pick can still bring a quality player. I believe our anchor in the middle of the D was a 5th rd pick. Also, how could it have been a 2nd rd pick? Did I miss something where another team actually put a claim in on him? This was a supplemental draft which means you get a guy for a rd lower value wise because he can play this year while the pick comes out of next years draft. So a 5th is really a 6th in value for next year. IMO you keep the best 53 and IF Wright is way below others then I wouldn't keep him at the expense of a better player. Shaw and Vickerson are both young and obviously playing much better. IF they can contribute now why would you keep Wright? Because it would cost a 5th rd pick next year? Who Cares! Guys are drafted all the time alot earlier than that and don't make it. We would be lucky to have found a couple of young DT's anyways. You make the pick and hope for the best BUT if it doesn't work out then you really screw your team over IF you keep them around just because you picked them high or they have that magic word potential. IF they keep this bum and cut Shaw or Vickerson I would be bummed because he doesn't seem to have earned it. I have the faith in Saban though - the guy seems on top of everything so I'm sure he'll do the right thing.

Agreed. He could have used another year of seasoning at the college level.
Give John Gamble one offseason to whip into a monster.

Wright would have been just a junior in college this year. He never got that time in college to gain the mental toughness. It will come over time, but you can't expect a player who is really still a college player to come in and tear things up. Give him time to grow.

Leave the kid alone...this is a major change for a 21 year old...He'll either wake up soon or be a bust, but with the physical tools he has, he can be developed into something special...He is a 'project' for a reason. Vickerson happens to be ahead of the curve compared to Wright..big deal...
