The most recent report was that he was one of two or three players (along with Culpepper) to stay at the Dolphins facility the past few weeks, when the players were given time off, and he worked out enough to get his weight to the level the Dolphins desire.
This is a good sign. I was not overly worried about the kid, after he came back from a very embarrassing moment last year to work hard enough and find his way into the lineup - and even make some big plays. His being overweight was likely just a lack of off-season experience.
The reality is, he is like a rookie coming into the league (age-wise). Had he stayed at USC another year, it is very possible he would have made a few more big plays for a relatively weak defense and they would have won the National Championship. If he had a good year there, he likely would have been a 2nd round pick this year.
I look for Wright, if he stays healthy, to be a solid player for us this year. If he dedicates himself (as the latest info seems to indicate he's capable of) he can be a top level DT/NT and starter in the league.
Any more thoughts on the kid?
