First Buffet, then Estefan, and now it looks like Marc Anthony.

Award-winning singer/songwriter Marc Anthony is the latest celebrity who's speaking with Dolphins owner Stephen Ross about becoming a minority owner in the franchise.

Though nothing is definite, Anthony is expected to forge a relationship with the Dolphins and is in serious talks about becoming a minority owner, two people close to the situation said Thursday.

If an agreement is reached, Anthony, 40, would join Gloria and Emilio Estefan and former Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga as minority owners in the team. Ross also has a partnership with Jimmy Buffett. But it's undetermined if any of the celebrities will perform at Land Shark Stadium, which Ross also owns.

Thoughts?

When was his last hit? I guess Ross is serious about attracting Hispanics, but I think Monica Cruz would be more of an attraction than Marc Anthony. But if he brings Jen Lo to the games then it's a plus.

Yo Ross: just because the term is minority owner doesn't mean the owner has to be part of a minority (are ParrotHeads minority status now?). Just in case that wasn't clear.

Not that I'm against outreach to Latinos (grew up in Miami, love my Cuban-American wife, give me a cortadito in the morning and I'm a happy camper), but at what point does it become pandering or patronizing? Am I the only one who feels this way or am I being hypersensitive?

I hate to admit it, but I think "Dirty" Sanchez will be more effective for the Jets in reaching out to Hispanics than the Estefans and Anthonys will for Miami. (He reportedly is brushing up on his Spanish to do ads and interviews with Latin TV outlets.) A real investment by the team (not a figurehead).

Great..when the players get locked out and there's no football...they can have concerts at the stadium....:err:

Who's next...Santana?

Great move. Share the costs and bring in another minority owner who has a following in the entertainment industry. Ross is a good businessman. To view this as anything other than a way of attracting more fans is silly.

Why not? All Ross is doing is aggressivly bringing financial stability to the franchise. I really don't get all the flack Ross is getting. Not everything he's doing may work, but he understands the necessity for financial stability and is not leaving a stone unturned to find it.

Parcells/Ireland/Sparano get praised for looking under every rock for talent that may or may not pan out Nalbone, Wake, Folsom, etc...But Ross gets dogged for doing the same thing for the financial side.

Lots of people here were all "Ohhhhh he's going to move the team! Oh noooo!" Well, he's not. He said he wasn't and he's good for his word. Then it was too; "Ross better not make Parcells angry! I know he will though! ooooooooh noooo!" Guess what? Ross said he was leaving the football side to Bill. He's been good for his word. Matter of fact, he bent over backwards to keep Parcells.

I just don't understand what Dolphin fans want from an owner.

Ross is aces so far in my book.

I see what Ross is doing and understand the motive. And as owner he has a responsibility for the financial viability of the franchise that he is consistently addressing, props for that. But one of the issues with Miami fans is their fickleness and their lack of passion for the game. Steeler fans shame us. Bringing in celebrities I think is more of a distraction to an already ADD fan base. We need a consistently good football team, well marketed, for the Dolphin fan base to grow. I was 11 years old in Miami during the perfect season. I became a Phin fan for life. How many people are going to get season tickets because of the Estefans, the Anthonys, or Buffett?

We've criticized the FO for player personnel moves that might backfire. I can see that there may be a down side to bringing in the celebs. I hope for the Fins sake I'm wrong.

Winning will bring fans...not stunt's. The 70's Dolphins were always sold out...why...not because they had Flipper.

Guy's like Ross are interested in one thing...MONEY! Don't be surprised one day that the Miami Dolphins become the L.A.Dolphin's.

Do you think guys own NFL franchises to take a loss?

How is bringing in a minority owner a stunt? Do you know what a minority owner is?

Less than 50% ownership of a corporation's voting stock, or not enough ownership to control company operations. From a purely accounting point of view, a parent company which owns less than 100% but more than 50% of a subsidiary presents the value of the remaining ownership (the minority ownership) on the balance sheet in a separate account. In such cases, minority interest is shown as either a liability or an equity item on the consolidated balance sheet, and the income (or loss) owed to the minority owners is subtracted from (or added to) the parent's income to arrive at a net income number (consolidated).

He's bringing in money. We won last year. I guess we'll see if fans come out, won't we? We've had many winning season in this stadium, and, we always struggle to fill the place. Why should ross believe that even with winning, like we have before, that fans will suddenly pack the stadium?

There is only one team that can win the Superbowl. Anything less, is jack ****. Don't believe it? Ask the Bills.

You make assumptions like he's going to move the team to LA. Why would he do that? Two NFL franchises have failed there already. Making money, here in MIAMI is what will keep the Dolphins here.

What NFL owner do you know that doesn't care about money?

all these celebreties, we're starting to look really gay

i didnt know boy george was a owner too

Do you know for a fact that Buffett, Gloria Estephan, and, Marc Anthony are going to be giving concerts at the games? How in the WORLD does having a celebrety own part of the team distract from anything? does it distract you? Doesn't distract me.

Maybe one or more of these artists will be giving a concert after the game. What's the harm in that? That's called "Value added" to a ticket to a game.

What exactly are you thinking these celebreties will do to hurt the franchise? Stand around? Watch the game? How in the world does that distract at all?

I have yet to be shown how giving someone MORE than they paid for is a bad thing.

Yeah...Celebs around the franchise are a terrible thing. Just ask the Lakers how ****ty it's turned out to have celebs show up for thier games. It's really, really hurt them, hasn't it?

Great..when the players get locked out and there's no football...they can have concerts at the stadium....:err:

Why not? Other than wearing that stupid Che Guevara shirt, I'd have no problem with it. Carlos probably has some money to throw around. I see no reason it shouldn't go to the Dolphins.

Truth be told, If I had to be subjected to music during luls in the game, I'd rather listen to Santana than Gloria Estephan or Marc Anthony.

Not Buffett though. I'm a big fan of his.

BTW...Another hugely succesful businessman who is a multi millionare, Jimmy is. Rich people don't get rich and stay rich by being dumb and making dumb decisions. Ross isn't dumb, Buffett isn't dumb. Gloria Estephan isn't dumb.

Smart, rich people all coming together to make money in a venture. Gosh...Such a terrible thing. What good ever came of smart, talented, rich people backing a product or service?
