The most impressive catch of the evening at mini camp actually came from yes, I’m serious, Marcus Vick. Quarterback Joey Harrington unleashed a pass across the middle that appeared to be far too ahead of Vick...until the former Virginia Tech quarterback extended his body for a ridiculous diving catch 15 yards from the line of scrimmage. I actually had to look down at a roster to make sure I correctly identified the receiver...wearing No. 16...as Vick. Indeed, it was. He has shown some extremely impressive route-running ability considering how new he is to the position. A bit earlier in the workout, he also had another nice play where he actually beat out safety Renaldo Hill for a catch on the run, which allowed him to carry five more yards after the reception for a touchdown. In the early workout, he also picked up a decent completion. Makes you wonder two things: Is this guy really going to make the roster? And could we be talking about another potential Antwaan Randle El? It’s certainly too premature to answer either question – especially the latter. Nonetheless, it will be fun to follow as camp progresses….

If lil' v keeps it up, he has a good chance of making this roster. Not only can he function as the fifth WR, but they're getting him reps at QB, which means they could have the option of saving a roster spot instead of keeping Cleo (unlikely, though as the staff is pretty happy with Cleo and we traded AJ for him).
I'm wondering why we haven't heard anything about lil v taking punt and/or kickoff return practice? I assume special teams plays haven't been run in training camp yet.

Well...
No one is questioning his athletic abilities. It's whether he has the maturity and professionalism to stay focused on football and control his emotional state.
That's the wild card.
I still remember Cecil "the Diesel", who looked great at training camp... but his best move of the season ended up being a dive out of some lady's window after he'd broken into her apartment.

All of this is spelling doom for one of my favorite players Wes Welker. That's too bad he is a good guy and would be nice to see him fight the odds and make the team once again, but its looking dim for him.
Is Saban maybe wanting to replace Wes Welker just because he was a Wannstedt guy ?

As for Vick, we're hoping he turns into something as a WR/ST/Backup QB to our Backup QB's, a Randle-El type option. The big IF is can he control himself and behave like a decent citizen?
