Hall of Famer Dan Marino remains a Dolphin through and through, which is one reason he’s enjoying his role as Special Advisor to the President and CEO.

“I’m enjoying it a lot,” Marino said during an interview with The Finsiders. “Really enjoy being around the players, working with the team. (President/CEO) Tom Garfinkel is a great guy. I really enjoy being with him and (Executive Vice President of Football Operations) Mike Tannenbaum and (General Manager) Dennis Hickey and being around the players, being a part of it. It’s been a lot of fun. I’ve enjoyed it and I’m going to continue to enjoy it.”

Marino also had high praise for Interim Head Coach Dan Campbell, whose first season as an NFL player (1999) happened to be the last of Marino’s glorious 17-year playing career.

“Dan is an outstanding coach and he has been, and I’ve enjoyed being around him,” Marino said. “I think he brings a great energy to this team and players respect him. The fact that he played in the league goes a long way with all the players nowadays. He’s very believable in his philosophies and how he comes across. You can see the energy of the team is there because of that.”

As the Dolphins prepare to play five of their final seven games at home, Marino says he’s confident the team can make a late-season push.

“I believe we can,” he said. “I think we have the talent do that. It’s about making plays when they count. That’s the whole thing in this league. You can play and you can struggle some, whatever, but when the game is on the line you make some plays, you win the game. That’s what they did up in Philly.”

Marino, of course, did more than his share of winning during his time as Dolphins quarterback and his inclusion on the organization’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team might have been the biggest slam dunk there was.

That said, it’s still an honor Marino cherishes.

He's right about coaches need have played in NFL for players to respect them nowadays.

It's gotta suck for Marino to get buried in the record books now by 2 and soon (Brady) 3 QBs, plus those QBs have won Super Bowls and he never did. Well, it sucks for me more than him, probably. He's honestly the reason I even got into watching NFL football.
I was 12 when I saw a Dolphin game in Miami. Living in Chicago, I just wasn't into watching sports on TV so I never got that into the Bears.
Being in the Orange Bowl and feeling the warm air and that whole vibe just brought me into NFL fandom and Dolphins fandom right then and there. The next year was 1984 and the rest is history. I was hooked and the Dolphins were my team in large part because of what Marino brought to the game. 48 TDs and 5,000 Yards is awfully damn fun to watch.
I love Danny and I hope I can get my young kids to appreciate what he did. Thank God for Youtube. Other QBs have put up the numbers, but none of them looked like Marino while doing it.

I love Marino and I am glad he us part of the team. In some small ways hopefully he can influence the front office and the players in a positive way.
