Thoughts on Marino running the show Gaine his right hand man with personnel and Aponte running the cap?

Folks…Aponte is going to be at the top of the org. with a GM below.

This is not a great gig when you think of it if you are GM. Aponte is circling above and she is big Joe backer.

Under this structure, Brian Gaine might make the most sense.

I read on one of threads about potential GM's that Darlington said Gaine will not be the GM

Darlington tweeted earlier that this is a very sought after job among potential candidates, so it may not be looked on as negatively as you think Hayden.

Who is going to come in and have Aponte hovering above and be forced to have Philibin as a coach.

Hayden can only think negatively.

Marino has of yet not been contacted about a position of any kind, according to Darlington.

There's two ways to go with this, imo, and it'll depend on the kind of people who want the job.

1. A new GM. He's persuaded to give Philbin at least a one year trial balloon, ala Idzik and Rex Ryan. Then next year Ross and the GM will decided whether to keep Philbin or fire him. Aponte could take on a more overall supervisory/Team President type role in that situation -- already her job, imo -- or a Team President type could be brought in from outside. The favorite for the job in that case would be Eric Mangini, imo. If Aponte was angry at not getting the job she could leave for a league position, which might make Omar Khan -- who's basically Aponte's opposite number in the Steelers organization -- the favorite.

2. None of the top people can be recruited, so Gaine or Aponte is given a one year "promotion" to GM and the test balloon is for everyone rather than just Philbin. Then, if things go the full Hindenburg next year, everyone is dropped and we start again either with a coach or a GM, whichever is sexier.

I would say the guy who Ross hires will come in and grab ahold of his third arm sine the other two are being held, thus obtaining a professional "one up" on both Gaine and Aponte. Ross has shown he will change his opinion on his hires fairly easy.

2 years ago, Ross impacted his coaching search by insisting Ireland would stay. Now he wants to hire GM with understanding Philbin stays.

Is Barry Jackson being negative?

I am just stating…once again…the obvious issues that could arise. Hire Brian Gaine…good move. I would support him. Get a Scott Pioli? I would not kill it. Eric Mangin…I will defend this move all day. Tannebaum…I will destroy this move.

If you want to defend the half measures this team always takes go ahead. If you do not want to look at the issues facing this franchise and just be happy a peoria is gone…be my guest.

Then how does do his PROS and cons write up every week?

I WANT my team to put an organization forward that can be consistently good, have a chance of making a run each year and generally kick ass…what is wrong with that? When I see that is not happening, I bitch about it. When I see good stuff happening, I praise it.

That's only if they have complete power not if Aponte is above them, that possibility of power is very appetizing for a lot of people.

It's not as big a deal that Philbin is still here as it was that Ireland was still there back in 2011-12 for two reasons. First off, GMs traditionally have much better job security than head coaches. This year, for example, seven head coaches have already been fired while only two GMs have been "fired". So if you're a GM who's coming to a new town where there's already a head coach, you know you're probably going to get a chance to replace that coach if things go wrong and that you're probably going to have at least a decent shelf life with which to turn things around. Not to mention, the GM position by it's very nature also implies more control over the team. You generally get "final say", though not always. In any case you're given more control over your future than a head coach generally enjoys.

Secondly, Joe Philbin has a better reputation around the league than Ireland did or does. It was a bigger deal to Jim Harbaugh or Jeff Fisher that Ireland was going to be here because people have been looking at Ireland for years and wondering how the **** he still had a job. Joe Philbin is not a top level coach but he's also not seen as a ****pot that's ready to boil over.

Why Marino?
What makes all you people go crazy over him?

Why not Griese? Why not Offerdahl? Why not Don Strock?
