TORONTO - He's not sure if the NFL is coming to Toronto, but there's no doubt in Dan Marino's mind whether a franchise could flourish in Ontario's capital.
"I've been here many times and it's a fun place, I don't see why it wouldn't work," Marino said. "I could see the problem with having Buffalo right there.
"But as far as the size of the city and the people and having NFL fans, I think it would work."
The long-time Miami Dolphins star quarterback was in town to preview the 2008 NFL season - which begins Thursday night with the Super Bowl-champion New York Giants facing the Washington Redskins - as well as help with NFL Canada's annual live fantasy draft and the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.

Maybe this is Marino's way of screwing over the city of Buffalo after all those years.

Toronto is certainly a large cosmopolitan city that's easily large enough to house an NFL franchise.. The greater Toronto area has over 6.5 Million people. Not to mention that there are a lot of NFL fans in Toronto. The NFL is pretty big in TO.. I know, I have a home there.

They have what you call "Pro Line" in Toronto.. ProLine is a gaming system that allows you to bet on NFL games (and all sports) just by walking into a convenience store that has a simple lottery machine.. And Pro line is pretty popular.

Imagine walking into any 7-11 type store and they have their own sportsbook.. That's Canada, ;)

Toronto already has the NBA, MLB, and of course the NHL. It's just a matter of time before they have an NFL team.

PS- I will be at the Fins/Bills game in Toronto this december. And I can't wait. :kick:

I wouldn't wish for a city to lose their sports team but if it's Buffalo then lets just say I won't be sad. :D

I would love the bills to move to toronto. then I would love to play them in december all the damn time. GO DOLPHINS!!!!!

He actually supported the Bills staying in Buffalo, something along the lines of a rich tradition and great people. He had plenty of positive things to say about Buffalo and their people. I was listening to Buffalo's Sports radio talk show and they brought up how great it was that Marino really backed Buffalo staying put.

Maybe he was just talking about the dolphin fans that live there.

The thing is, as much as I dislike the Bills, I'd hate to see Buffalo lose that team. I'm big on history and tradition. I can see that Toronto may be too tempting a market for the NFL to pass up though. I think sometimes we forget that the fate of NFL franchises is tied up with the fate of the cities in which they are based. The larger problem for Buffalo is that the city has been shrinking for the last 50 years and the population is now down to the same level it was at in the 1890's. It would be sad to see them lose their team (as much as I hate them on Sundays) as that city has lost so much already with the decline of manufacturing in the U.S. as a whole.

The price of tickets was out of control we were planning on coming...

The price to fly over stay in a hotel and see the game in Dec was so atrocious that we decided to fly to Zona instead... :kick:

I hear there is no room at the stadium to tail-gate which is gonna be a shame..., but I think i agree that the NFL will come to TO when Ralph Wilson dies...

I understand it's a business and they will do whatever is best for the team financially, but I would hate to see Buffalo lose the Bills. I hate the Bills as much as anyone, but I respect their tradition and our rivalry. I would hate to see the team moved to Toronto.

I wouldn't want Buffalo to lose their city. There is a big history, tradition, and rivalry with that team. It would suck, and I know if Miami lost our city to another, I would be deeply saddened by it.

Hell, I still am upset at the city of Seattle for not keeping the Supersonics. And I'm not a Sonics' fan.

The NFL in Toronto would suck for a real football fans perspective.

A. They would charge more then any other team in the league because they figure people are stupid and will pay anything even if the team is crap. re... Toronto Maple Leaf fans

B. There wouldn't be the party atmosphere that you get the tailgating in Buffalo or other NFL teams.

C. The stadium would be quite enough to read a book or study for an exam.

D. Tonnes of seats would be empty while the game is on because the Suits would be mingling somewhere talking business.

E. Once the team starts losing fans in Toronto don't show up, except smart Maple Leaf Fans who take out a 2nd mortgage.

Anyone who wants to see the Buffalo Bills move to Canada isn't a Dolphins fan. I really hope Jim Kelly's and his investors get to take over when Ralph Wilson passes (hopefully not soon but he's like 90). Ralph has no heirs that would be interested in the team so......

I want Toronto to have a team much more than LA, but not at the expense of a division rival. Buffalo is buffalo, we didn't beat Toronto 20 times in a row in the 70's.

I'd be alot less sad if the Jets were moving to say LA, or the Patriots to hell? The Bills are a great organization, its a shame the city of Buffalo has fallen apart at the seems. Its an industrial city with no industry. They should've trademarked "Buffalo Wings".

Canadians do not repect our game as a majority, they actually think their league can compete with ours, they dont like americans for that matter either, two qualities that are not condusive to a sucessfull NFL franchise.
