These days, after so many years of futility, a win is a win and I'm excited for the season, but if u had to choose between the air show under record Dan or Csonka, Morris and Kiick which would u prefer?
I'll b the first to admit the Marino years were a blast and almost always felt like we had a chance (except against Jacksonville) but I guess I'm old school and love the idea of demoralizing a team by stuffing the ball down their throats, ala Lamar Smith behind Kevin Donnelly and co. or Ricky with Jamie Nails etc.
Granted Kiick was probably known more as a third down pass catcher in the Super Bowl years but Griese hardly threw and we had Warfield deep. If we could win it all and build a dynasty, which way would u rather do it and could one way or the other succeed in today's game?

Give me an offense with an effective rushing attack and downfield throws all day. Balance wins.

As we're playing the Raiders today, it is only appropriate to say once again that I always loved the stories about Al Davis, in his later years, getting on the sideline telephone and telling his coaches "Throw it deep or you're fired."

I never saw csonka, Morris, and kick play but I did see Ricky Williams and Marino play and watching Marino sling the ball around was as exciting as it got. I know we didnt ever win a superbowl with that Marino offense but those were still some of the greatest memories as a fan. Would give anything to have a QB and offense like that again. But in the end, I just want to win either through the air or on the ground, just be in so control and let's talk superbowl.

Pass is pretty but ground attack wears a defense out....Hopefully they can do both....Raiders passrush is weak i read.....We should be able to score some points.

The one thing that always killed me was, as amazing, and fun to watch Marino was, the way the defense continually failed him was beyond annoying.

Many put the blame on Miami not winning a SB in the Marino years, because they did not have a balanced attack on with a good running attack, I disagree.

With Marino, Miami did not need a good running attack, considering he was a consistently scoring offense all by himself. Miami did not really need to have good running, to control the clock, considering holding Marino from scoring for long, was almost impossible, so catching up to Miami if a defense for the most part was working, was a monstrous task.

Defense was what stopped Marino from reaching the big show more then once. Loved Zonk, Morris, and Kiick, but you give me a Marino led Offense with a good to great defense...I am extremely happy.

You can’t compare. The game has changed too much. Same with basketball.

Winning teams these days shoot lots of threes. Playing through a dominant center and driving the lane are mostly things of the past. Ditto on the enforcer that would make you pay for trying to take the ball to the hole.

Football has become more about skill and finesse than power like it used to be. In the good old days teams were often closer in talent. The game was more of a chess match. Field position was something to play for. If football was like that today I think many would find it boring. I preferred it and I think fans were more loyal. You had a couple/few teams that aired it out. The fans of those teams thought they had something going. The rest of us thought we were going to punch them in the mouth and stomp them into the turf come Sunday! It was fun and teams had more clearly defined identities.

Marino all day with Miami's defense when they had the ground and pound of the 70's.
