This question was sparked by something another finheaven member posted in another thread............

Would you have traded Dan Marino for a combination of players and draft picks that eventually won Miami a superbowl or two???

Great question. WOW! I am going to think about this and edit my post later. Wow, what a tough question.

This is like the black hole of posts.

ON TOPIC:

I'd have to say NO. I would not trade Marino. It was too darn fun watching him. He is the best ever.

I may have been the one to spark this thread????

IMO Dan Marino is the best QB to ever play the game, but I would take Tom Brady's THREE Super Bowl wins in a heart beat over Dan's 17 years and his Hall of Fame ring.

Anyone that says they would take marino over a super bowl needs to check themselves. You need to take the emotion out of the equation. How about this question: Would you draft cutler at 16(assuming he is there) if you knew he would have a really long prolific career setting a ton of records and going to many probowls, but never winning a superbowl vs drafting croyle who only ended up having a short career, no records, but lead us to a super bowl win?

what would you do?

This is a tough one...hindsight is always 20-20, but with Marino under center, you always felt we were in the game...I'd say no...I just enjoyed watching him play...

OK, here is a better comparison would you rather have sex with a really hot woman or watch a really hot woman have sex? Sorry dan.

I would like to do both.

That is NOT a good analogy!

You would have to either have GREAT forelplay/fooling around/EVERYTHING BUT Sex with different women for 17 years on sacrifice it all for 2 or 3 great sex sessions.

Funny thing being from Indy I have the same situation with Reggie Miller and the Indiana Pacers. Their careers were very similiar. They both could physically take over a game and dominate but unfortunately neither brought a championship to their team. I would have to disagree about the Super Bowl And championship thing. If you are asking me would I trade 39 games that we were behind in and my man Dan brought us back and won. Same with Reggie and his battles with New York and Chicago. Those moments in both cases are things I would not trade. I would rather have all the cool memories of my sports idols than have a championship. Sorry :dolphins:

Perhaps another way to look at it is this way. I have two daughters and I am divorced. would I trade them for anything? Absolutely not, even if I knew in advance that I wouldn't be married to their mother. A little extreme perhaps but there are plenty of fin freaks on this site who could relate.

Why? Because you say so. Marino brought more memories to every fan, that no 3 superbowls could equal. Now if you told me that Keep Marino (NEVER win a superbowl again) or trade for a few players that get us a few superbowls, then I would go with the trade.

I would rather have all the Marino memories and hopefully in the very near future win a few more superbowls, then not having Marino on our team and going for #5 and 6.

Championships are about a team and not one player. Sure you had all this talk about winning one for John or Jerome, but it's more about the team winning.
