He is joking but it's still funny.

The Clock Play — one of the everlasting memories to warm the hearts of Dolphins fans amid lean times like this — deserves a special place in the hearts of Seattle Seahawks fans, too.

That was the message Dan Marino sent, with a smirk, during his visit with ESPN’s Mike & Mike on Wednesday morning.

Why?

As Mike Greenberg pointed out, Marino’s fake spike in 1994 didn’t just stun the New York Jets, who went on to finish 6-10 that season, but it helped get Pete Carroll fired as Jets coach at the end of that season. Carroll had three mediocre seasons as coach of the New England Patriots starting in 1997 before coaching USC and ultimately landing in Seattle, where he became a respected Super Bowl-winning coach.

But as soon as Greenberg suggested the Marino deserves an assist for helping the Seahawks get where they are, Marino shot back, “I’ve said that before.

“He’s done pretty good,” Marino added of Carroll. “A heck of a coach.”
Greenberg wondered if things had turned out slightly different, would Carroll still be with the Jets?

“Seattle never would have been there,” Marino said of Sunday’s Super Bowl.

Things turned serious when Greenberg and fellow host Mike Golic — who briefly played with Marino on the Dolphins — asked about DeflateGate.

“I personally don’t think Tom Brady would do something to cheat,” Marino said. “I don’t think he’d do that. He’s a competitive guy. He’s not that way. Is there an advantage to it? I think sometimes, the ball is deflated in bad weather, it’s easier to throw.”

Marino touched on a few other topics, although, even though he’s an advisor to Steve Ross, the current Dolphins team wasn’t among them:
