okay so the game was a couple days ago, and the next one isn't until Sunday. I am getting bored reading all of the "It's Culpepper's fault or Culpepper is the man" posts, so I thought I'd ask a question that has bugged me for awhile. Hopefully this will get our minds off of everything.

Why was Marino's number 13? With all of the superstitions in sports you would think that he would have picked a different number.
 
I don't recall hearing any story behind the number and why he picked it. I'm sure there is one though. Maybe he wanted to let people know that when they saw the number 13, they knew it meant their luck had run out.

actually if i'm not mistaken i think heard in an interview when he was younger and playing football i'm assuming pop warner or something when he went to get his number they had all been taken and 13 was the last one left so he choose it and kept it ever since

i was doing some internet research on why Marino's number was "13" and I came across this link.

Basically it claims to be the actual uniform (all the way to socks and shoes) that Dan had on when his achilles ruptured.

The dummy kind of looks like Jason Taylor...it through me off when I first saw it.

In reading Marino's book, I believe that this indeed was the reason.

Here's the story behine Marino and the number 13, His dad was his coach, for the team that he played on in pop warner. His dad brought all the uniforms to the field one day and told the kids to pick a number Danny Boy had to pick last i guess because his dad was the coach and the only jersey left was number 13 Dan said at first he didn't like the number because of the superstition. But he didn't do to bad with that number so he kept it year after year. I have a book that tells the story it also comes with a DVD of Danny when he was a kid growing up. It has alot of film on him playing sports as a kid. Including Baseball.
 
i read a biography on him and when he was playing pop warner football his dad was the head coach and didn't let him pick his number until last and that number was 13.....so basically his dad made him wear 13.

Yeh i remember reading the same thing, his dad was the coach so his dad made him pick last.. And 13 was always the last number
