mario edwards big mistake

edwards should also provide some good solid competition for our other corners, hopefully forcing them to elevate their play a notch or two

id love to see what will poole's got - he seems to be a t-buck style of player, not incredibly gifted, but always making plays

honestly, i thought reggie howard was a disappointment last year

especially that arizona game - fitzgerald roughed him up pretty badly

I don't think Rodney Harrison is a 2nd or 3rd tier player. He has been one of the best safeties in the league his entire career. He was a beast in San Diego and he still makes huge plays at his age for New England.

In my opinion, Mario Edwards is a horrible corner. He gives up big plays and gets beat a lot. Now, I understand this happened on a different team and he when he was in a starting role...so hopefully Saban can use this guy so he isn't such a liability.

maybe saban puts him at safety

hes probably big enough and he plays a more physical style

who knows

Saban wanted a big press corner.....Mario Edwards excels at bump and run coverage....(he sucks at zone coverage)....Saban wants a good bump and run CB with size...when Miami goes into a nickel press coverage on passing downs...Edwards fills a need...he doesn't have to be in there as often when Miami plays more zone...

What's the problem?

Man some of you are silly.

Who do you want to sign to be our dimeback/nickelback? Ty Law? Edwards is our #4 CB, hes not starting opposite of Madison.

We DONT HAVE a dimeback on the roster once we trade Surtain. Mario is a vet guy and although he cant cover the Chris Chambers of the NFL, he should be able to cover the Bryan Gilmore's of the NFL. He isnt our starting CB and he was the best option LEFT out in the free agent market for a dimeback. We signed him for 1 year. Theres no such thing as a bad sign for a year. He is a temporary fix for our hole at the dimeback position.

If we didnt sign him, we would have Jimmy Wyrick or Alphonso Roundtree as our dimebacks..... for those of you who are SOOO against Edwards, who is your dimeback next year? Also, because of the holes we have on this team, you cant go into the draft expecting to get a CB also. Edwards was a good signing.

:deadhorse :thewave: thank you, this thread is pathetic.....

have no fear Edwards will not be on the field a whole lot Madison and either Poole or Howard will start with Edwards as maybe a 4th or 5th back and he won't be playing too much

I wouldnt worry about big name CBs. Look at the "Final Four" teams in the NFL playoffs. Falcons, Steelers, Patriots, Eagles. They all have at least ONE great CB, but the rest of them arent exactly the best players...yet they still made it to the "Final Four".

Didn't Edwards play some safety at FSU? I think he did and if so might he be a candidate for FS. With T. Jones being a Harrison type SS, Edwards would fit the pats model of a FS who could cover but who is big enough to come up and support the run.

:shakeno:

So, who plays Dimeback then?

edwards is a great depth guy..good pickup. if he was starting, we'd be in trouble.

People Edwards is not that bad!! If he was awful he would have been easily replaced in Dallas but he still hasnt been. He is no star but a solid starter that will be playing 4th or 3rd at best corner. We are just adding secondary help he is a guy that can also come in at free saftey.
