It’s clear the team doesn’t expect to have defensive end Mario Williams back Sunday. He’s in the concussion protocol.

Asked about replacing Williams, Joseph said: "On base downs, Jason Jones’ role won’t change. On third and sub downs, we may have to adjust not having Mario."

Concussions are serious and this is something that a lot of medical professionals have known since long before it was an NFL scandal. My mom actually wouldn't let me play pop warner because of them, and this was back in the 80s.

The new concussion protocols are good and as much as it sucks to see a key player held out this week with a concussion, I think this is being handled correctly. With that said, I also believe that the number of football players who were "senile" at 50 is extremely low and honestly, it has been sensationalized to the point of ridiculousness. Many of these men who claim that they are now broke and destitute because of hits to the head are almost certainly broke and destitute because of terrible decisions they've made with their money, alcoholism, drug abuse, and pretty much every other reason why millions of men across America are broke and destitute going into middle age.

And, uh, that's my rant.

you know what? Good for your mom to know what was up before movies like "Concussion" told the world that, err, getting hit in the head is hazardous to your health. There was a PBS special before the movie came out that covered how CTE was discovered and was very good. Actually, the Concussion movie stayed fairly true to the "facts" on the medical side of things.

Oh....you mean rough and tough no nonsense players like Dick Butkus, Larry Csonka, Jack Lambert Mike Curtis....oh, wait....they're all from the 60's and 70's and their minds are as good as when they played as are many other players from that era, hitters and "hitees".......I guess you mean "senile" 80's and 90's hard hitters like Lawrence Taylor, Ronnie Lott, John Lynch, Bruce Smith, Ed Reed, Rodney Harrison.....no, wait....they're all still in great mental & physical condition as well as many of their targets.
