Mark and Herm pick the DOLPHINS

saw this, along with sterling on nfln picking us, too. interesting. I was expecting all jets picks across the board.

you know, sometimes it takes a team a few games to sort some things out and get going. I think that may be us this year. we were ready to play with the chargers and lost pennington early in the game and it took henne a while to settle down. and the secondary gave up big plays again. but things have looked better each week.

That's us every year. We always end better than we start (granted most teams improve, but in our case it's relative to the other teams). I can't remember the last time we've had a good start.

I was expecting more Jets picks, though. I prefer when they pick against us.

it used to be the opposite for many years. countless times we would go undefeated in september only to bottom out in december. towards the end of marinos caeer and into johnson/wanny regime you could always count on us to stink up the joint when it came time to make a run for playoffs.

Not so long ago we used to come out of the gate on fire only to fade late. Year after year. The trend of us starting slow and finishing well is a relatively new phenomenon.

I prefer the stronger finish, if I have to pick. but you play with fire getting so far behind so early. that said, we really should be 2-2, the colts game was a real let down after dominating them on offense. I think the secondary is playing much better now than they were week 2. if cotchert cant go the jets are deep **** on offense.

Prisco and Harmon as well as most of the CBS Sportsline staff have picked the Jets

You can't be a Dolphin fan for very long..lol

well the fact of the matter is that this matchup is not that bad for the dolphins...

the jets strength is in their blitzes and disrupting the QB, but unfortunately not so much on stopping the run... yes they will load the box, but EVERY team has done that to us and it doesn't mean they can stop our run... we dont rely on the passing game so their strength doesn't effect us as much...

same on the other side of the ball... we shut down opposing teams running games, so we force the other QB to have to beat us... but the Jets need to run the ball because they have a rookie QB who is still learning on the job... thats not their strength...

we match up badly with a team who has a vertical passing attack and is prone to stopping the run... we match up well with a team who has trouble stopping the run and leans on their running game... the jets are that second team, and that helps us tremendously...

the Jets are a very good team, but in the NFL matchups matter and this matchup works out well for us at home... if we dont turn the ball over we win easy...

After hearing the interview with a Jets asst. coach he was talking about our running game and how we hardly ever have 3rd and long because of our ability to run the ball and how it makes things a lot more managable for us and difficult for the defense.

I have to agree with him, if we can keep it 3rd and 5 or less, it will really make it a lot more difficult for the defense to just pin their ears back and bring the house.

yeah thats why we have the best 3rd down conversion percentage in the league, we put ourselves in a situation where its manageable...

but the one problem is we need to hit the big play every once in a while... we cant rely on 14 play drives every time we need a score... its just asking too much to play too perfect for that long every time to score a TD... we need some big plays and hopefully Henne can give us that...

It's a reasonably even match-up favoring them in certain critical areas and us in others...but still it's anyone's guess. Personally, I wouldn't get too confident over Herm's prediction considering that he's got trouble even picking his own nose w/o a road map!
